There are well over 200 million bengalis in this world, living primarily in Bangladesh and the West Bengal state of India. Thats a very small area for such a large population, which means that bengalis live in the most over-crowded conditions on the planet. Calcutta (now called Kolkata) in India, and Dhaka and Chittagong in Bangladesh are the three main bengali cities. Economically the bengalis are the poorest of the large ethnicities in the world, with Bangladesh where most bengalis live having a nominal per capita income of just $600 a year. Yet despite their reputation as being the poorest of the poor the bengalis have produced some truly outstanding personalities. In this thread I will list the most prominent of them.
