ORIGINS



The modern Russian is formed from two groups, Northern and Southern, which were made up of Kriviches, Ilmen Slavs, Radimichs, Vyatiches and Severians East Slavic tribes. Genetic studies show that modern Russians do not differ significantly from Poles or Slovenians or Ukrainians. Some ethnographers, like Zelenin, affirm that Russians are more similar to Belarusians and Ukrainians than southern Russians to northern Russians. Russians in northern European Russia share moderate genetic similarities with Uralic peoples, who lived in modern north central European Russia and were partly assimilated by the Slavs as the Slavs migrated northeastwards. Among those peoples were Merya and Muromian.


GENETICS



Russians show the characteristic R1a genes of paternal descent from a single male at 33.4% in North Russia to 49% in rest of Russia. Such large frequencies of R1a have been found only in Eastern Europe and South and Central Asia.
In Europe, R1a (Haplogroup R1a (Y-DNA) is found at its highest levels among peoples of Eastern European descent (Sorbs, Poles, Russians and Ukrainians; at about 50 to 65%).



The percentages of Y-chromosome markers vary in ethnic Russian populations, and in different studies. The top four Y-DNA haplogroups are:

Haplogroup R1a (Y-DNA) - 19.8% to 62.7%, with an average of 46.7%
Haplogroup I (Y-DNA) - 0% to 26.8%, with an average of 17.6% (All regions), and 23.5% (Central and South Russia)
Haplogroup N (Y-DNA) - 5.4% to 53.7%, with averages of 21.6% (All regions), and 10% (Central and South Russia)
Haplogroup R1b (Y-DNA) - 0% to 14%, with an average of 5.8%


POPULATION


Russians are the most numerous ethnic group in Europe and one of the largest in the world with a population of about 140 million people worldwide. Roughly 116 million ethnic Russians live in Russia and about 16 million more live in the neighboring countries. A significant number of Russians, around 4,6 million, live elsewhere in the world, mostly in the Americas and Western Europe, but also in other places of Eastern Europe, Asia and elsewhere.

Ive been to Russia for vacation and it didnt strike me as uncivilized. From what I could notice during my short stay is that they are just...different...from western europeans.

Russia still has a dictatorship. no need to say more, a mubarak/khadaffi like figure who is using religion, pressure, murder (of journalists), there is Putin youth ( www.nashi.su ), if you want a carreer you generally need to be a member of the party etc. Plus the fact that Russia lives mostly of sales of its natural resources and is unable to offer anything else of value to the world.
Slavs are white, but intellectually they are on average inferiour to other, non slav whites, (sorry, dont want to offend anyone, I said "on average"), and among the slavs, an average russian IS the most inferior.
Russia = egypt = lybia = syria = iran etc etc.

In england they say "the biggest problem of the russians is that they are white, otherwise we would have had better "understanding" for their problems".

The Russian system is just greased on corruption yet from what I see so long as you pay off the correct Kremlin faction then it seems most Western fortune 500 companies are investing there. So ease of doing business is probably not that bad given that corruption is simply part of the process there. It isn't alien to the Russian system it is a part of it. Western business seems to have readily accepted this. People forget that corruption doesn't prevent business.


Also keep in mind Google was founded by Jewish guys with a deep animosity towards anti-Jewish Russian history as one of them is actually a Russian Jew. So take whatever Google says in respect to Russia with a big grain of salt.

The other guy in the picture was swarthy and looked Mongolic influenced (he looked like Tatars I've seen on the internet). At least in Lithuania these people are percieved as Russians.
Usually Russian speaking person = a Russian. Unless he/she states otherwise. General opinion is that Russians are quite mixed people, so it's no suprise that some of them look dark, for example.
I agree that some of them actually might be non Slavic Russians as these schools are for Russian speaking people who may not necessarily be Slavic.

Bulgarians and Macedonians probably, they are practically Slavicized Thracians. Russians at least have a similar pigmentation to most Western Euros, even if their look is somewhat Finnic.

IMHO, there is many types of Russian look. If we omit those who look Caucasian or south Slavic, there is Finnish looking, western looking (I mean anglo look, westerners dont look similar) and a third group with facial features just typical for Russians.

There is obviously a gene flow with the European part, but it's not that great. Anyway, those V/U folk are not exactly "mongs", they're pred. Euro themselves (majority). At least Finnics and Tatars are. There are pred. Mongoloid people further in Siberia (Yakut, Tuva et cetera), but mixing with them is much rarer, and the result doesn't pass as Russian, curbing the gene flow.

I know several Russians who are really mong-mixed. from Urals too. some Urals ethnic groups are quite mong, for ex, Bashkirs.
that doesn't make sense that mixed cannot pass as Russian. there are people in Siberia and Far East who look very mong, but they consider themselves ethnic Russians, cause their culture and language are Russian. they simply cannot identify with other ethnic group. really, ethnic group is culture, not biology or race. among Bashkirs, Tatars also and many other ethnic groups there are both Caucasoid and Mongoloid - looking people. I've seen photos of several Bashkir families, some family members of which are Caucasoid, some Mongoloid, and some these families are Bashkir-only. one ethnic groups - two races. it's not smth unusual.

Yes, I found it in the very same place. This Priladoshkaja Chud is very interesting, also from my personal point of view. The Svir-Syas-etc. complex was apparently, based on for instance hoards which have been found in the area, one of the biggest centres in the area. There are, according to my understanding, Finnic house of the dead type of burials and kurgans, possibly inspired by Scandinavians, next to each other. Kurgans apparently seem to follow the finnic burial house type of discipline but there are still clear signs of Swedes living among the locals. Archeological finds indicate a lively contact with the Volga Bend area etc. It would be great to get some more information on the area.

Yes, they have Mongol admix. But as I said pure Russians are a pure Caucasians race, even purer if she/he has one drop Caucasian blood.
