She is hardcore christian tho'. representing the christian democrats. There is obviously no chance for her to get elect, will score around 2% of votes.

Sauli Niinistö will win by landslide. There's really no competition.

I forgot all about the foreign voting period last week, so I didn't get to vote

But I'm still uncertain on who'd get my vote. I tried some questionaries about the candidates, and I got these as top:

1. Biaudet
2. Niinistö / Lipponen
3. Soini
4. Arhinmäki

Finnish politics sure are completely different from Swedish. Finnish communists (Arhinmäki) are more moderate than Swedish social democrats

1. Biaudet <-- mad bitch
2. Niinistö / Lipponen
3. Soini
4. Arhinmäki

If she gets 2% of votes we can conclude that 50% of Swedish speaking Finns should see head doctor asap.

If I'm not incorrect I think Niinistö is most popular among Finland-Swedes.

My fiancee voted for the Green guy (homosexual, Pekka smth).

scg, is the finnish Left Alliance communists?

Is there really gonna be a second round, when Sauli (kokomus) has a superior lead?

I sure hope so. RKP usually scores around 4%, they get around 80% of "Swedish" votes. If Biaudet scores 2% it means that half of hardcore RKP voters voted for her. She is completely bonkers btw.

If you consider Vänsterpartiet being communists (which I do), then the Left Alliance probably should too. Although the Left Alliance would probably consider Vänsterpartiet as being cruel Stalinists

IMO you could say politics in Finland is one step more to the right, if you're Moderat in Sweden you're pretty much Centre Party in Finland etc.

3. Soini
4. Arhinmäki

Haha, not the best set of candidates there tbh. Niinistö is fine. But Biaudet at the top? She´s nuts. :o

Presidential election is about a person most suitable to be in charge of foreign politics, not connected to specific parties and their ideologies so much.

He picked 20 years younger partner from an Ecuadorian bar. This was not however any big issue during the campaign. If Niinistö had picked 20 years younger Cuban belle from a bar in Havana instead of young Finnish lady, it would have been a catastrophe. Proved, Finland is now one of the most liberal countries in the world.

It was too close.. huh! Thankfully Niinistö is married to one classy lady.

I found it funny how all the news is now like "tolerance & rainbows & furry bunnies" are the real winners of this election. No they are not. Sauli Niinistö won it. With crushing landslide of votes.

I hope this will steer Kokoomus back to right & eventually boot out that sad loser Katainen and his sidekick Aleksi Stubb. They should join the pekkahaavisto-party and get married.

I hope this will steer Kokoomus back to right & eventually boot out that sad loser Katainen and his sidekick Aleksi Stubb. I understand you if you mean that Katainen and Stubb are pushing ahead with the failing economical politics. But Niinistö is hardly influencing them to be more EU critical. He still was the only viable option. If you compare him to Stubb, his EU enthusiasm is not that high. Niinistö is clearly conservative rightwing nationalist when compared to rest of modern Kokoomus. This moderate conservatism is what won him the elections.

I understand you if you mean that Katainen and Stubb are pushing ahead with the failing economical politics. But Niinistö is hardly influencing them to be more EU critical. Katainen sold Kokoomus to Sosdems (and his flirting with GreenLeft is disgusting). His opinions are more of the GreenLeft than traditional conservative right. Stubb is simply walking catastrophy. He speaks very well, the problem is that he speaks too much without thinking. His main problem seems to be that he often forgets that he is working for Republic of Finland and not EU.

It is not so little, because Germany is exporting a lot of goods and services to the Mediterranean region. They dont want to lose big southern markets, and Finns have to support them even without similar advantages, although we export to Germany. Without this trade connection to the south Germans would have already thrown them over the bulwark starting from Greek.

Also, I believe that green guy got many votes because he is EU-negative while Niinistö is very pro-EU and got you into that EMU shit.

But since the president have relativley little power in Finland (correct me if I'm wrong) and is more of a representant that maybe doesn't matter.

There were only two who were negative to EU in the election - Väyrynen and Soini - and none of them made it to the second round.Essayah is an Euro skeptic, too, and I think she is not a fan of EU either. However, EU and Euro matters were not the main factors Finns based their votes on as most of them know that the president has very little power on them. The president of Finland leads our foreign policy (which doesn't include the EU) mainly by trying to build and maintain good relations to Russia, USA and China.
