This thread is for those who are having issues with FTDNA or are unsure about something about FTDNA, let this thread be a place to discuss these issues and perhaps receive or give peace of mind.

My current inquiry:

I noticed on the pages that show the various tests you can purchase that it has a list of SNP's to purchase under "Advanced Orders - SNP's". If you ordered the Deep Clade SNP test do you have to purchase each SNP individually from that "Advanced Orders" page despite having already ordered the Deep Clade Test? Considering that some of these individual SNP tests are more expensive than the initial Deep Clade test. If this is so what's the point in paying for the Deep Clade test if they won't assign you a haplogroup and will in turn make you just buy the SNP's one by one? To me that would be false advertising on their part.

I also notice that FTDNA's customer support fails to respond to inquiries. I have submitted inquiries in the past that were completely blown off. This is piss poor customer service IMO.

I think I've gotten all the results I'm gonna get from their so called mega test. But I was severely disappointed. I only got some more data about my mitogroup. I must have misunderstood something when I ordered the test. I was expecting way more. Like for instance deep clade at least on my yDNA. And the friggin time they took to deliver! I ordered back in october ffs. Shit happens when you don't read the fine print.

Totally lost my interest in FTDNA.

Same here.

In regards to the Deep Clade, that's always a separate purchase from what I understand $89.00 USD.

On another note:

I just received this email.

A very small percentage of the tests we perform do not return conclusive results the first time we test. In these cases, the samples do not produce a reading that allows our lab to determine with 100% certainty the values for one or more markers or regions. When this happens, we re-test the sample. We repeat this procedure up to 3 times after the initial test fails to give a clear result.

Your sample failed to produce a clear result in this run. Below is a status update for your kit number, 160082, as well as an estimated time of when the next rerun is expected to be completed:

DCLADE-R - 3/5/2010 The Deep Clade tests are performed in a series of rounds to pinpoint your position on the current Y-DNA Haplogroup Tree. Your sample requires more than the average number of rounds to complete this testing process. As each round is completed, those results are added to your Y-DNA Haplotree section. The next testing round is expected to be complete by this date.

This is fucking insane. How the hell could they not get conclusive results with the exact same samples I provided for my Y-STR test, which by the way had no trouble being run. I'm convinced FTDNA is just diddly dallying instead of actually working on the tests they are supposed to run, and they just send these emails to keep people from suspecting their laziness.

I seriously want my 200 bucks back so I can at least buy something that will at least get to me. Another axe or sword perhaps.

The company worked nicely for me, at least. The only problem I have is that sometimes I can not establish connection with the site.

I am curious about them rerunning my sample, I don't see how they could confirm that I tested negative for L2, plus have used my sample successfully for Y-STR analysis, then all of a sudden have to retest. I know for a fact I scraped good enough, I scraped till my mouth bled, my sample is loaded with my DNA.

I am curious if it is neglect of lab procedure or perhaps they contaminated my sample.

Just got an email from FTDNA, my results are to be expected on March 3, not the 5th I guess. So two days earlier. :D The issue with my haplotree was a glitch (the reason why I was seeing no evidence of test progress/pending results).

I reckon the haplotree IT issue has not been solved, as I had incorrectly been lead to believe. I had recently logged on to my page and observed that my haplotree stated my confirmed haplogroup to be I1, however when I refreshed the page it goes back to stating my predicted haplogroup is R1b1b2 with my test still in progress.

I am curious if anyone else is having these issues with their haplotree?

Yeah, this happened some few times when the test was still being updated and posted (now it is done, everything is posted, paternal and maternal side). I guess one time I got a bug that said I2a, and another time it said J1, then it went back to my standard R1b1b2/R-M269.

Mine alternated between R1b1b2, J2, I1, and R1b1b ever since I ordered the SNP test. When I had my STR's tested it was always at R1b1b2, I've plugged my STR's into both online calculators and still got R1b1b2.

I'm still anxious for my SNP testing to be done, I'm still extremely pissed that my results are delayed until March 3rd or 5th (conflicting dates given by my Pending Results and the Customer Service Rep).

The next and first upgrade that I am going to do in FTDNA will be the Deep Clade-R stuff to confirm my haplogroup. I will do it in April, the month of my birthday.

Also what are these calculators that you speak of? A DYS values calculator?

Eiup. Both show up if you google Y-DNA predictor or Y-DNA calculator.

Still waiting on my FGS results. The third revised date was yesterday. That came and went. It is now due, next Friday, the 12th.
