South Indians tend to have very thick and coarse hair. Thicker/coarser than North Indians. But, what gives us that trait? That extra Australoid blood? Negritos or whatever?!
Thick like mine:

Might be. South East asians have a gene varient (the EDAR gene) that gives them hair that is 40% thicker than caucasian hair. It might be prevelant in south Asia as well.

So, it's SEA admixture?
Could be SEA admixture,or Australoid admixture. But both of the aforementioned groups are mixed up in recent times.
Native Americans also have thick hair. In many Mestizo countries in Latin America that trait is very common.

^ Thicker than or as thick as East Asians?
I think East Asians have it way more thick.

Don't know if my hair is thick and coarse, but it weights a lot.

Aren't N.Indians supposed to have thinner hair?

I will have to cut it because now I feel a little weight above my head, and more I let it grow, more heavy it becomes.
Aren't N.Indians supposed to have thinner hair?
Hell, no.

That doesn't add up with what I've noticed.

Please don't confuse me with pakistani.
* I've been to North India.
* I'm Indian.
* I have no agenda(why would I want to prove that we have thicker hair?).
* Yes, I've observed everyones nose, face shape, hair etc(I've been doing that since I started lurking on these forums).
^^
Why would I. Thick hairlines are possible in N.India.
Some of it may have come from us - the Australoids.
It is our influence that made you South Indians into a freakishly good looking people. :p
And had you stayed longer with us (or rather, the other way around), some of you would be rocking blonde hair too. :p
But I really don't know.
On a more serious note, ours can be very thick too.
But I have never really compared north vs south indians like what you are saying. Really ? Do South Indians have thicker hair than the Northern ones? I think I will personally have to check on it.
And also, I don't know really where some of your curly hair too comes from. Was it from us or was it straight from africa ?

The curly hair is probably just a Caucasian trait. African curly hair and the Indian kind is different.

@ Ducktard, At your age, everyone will have thick hair, North Indian or South :D
Although I've noticed that North Indians usually have a Caucasoid type forehead and Hairlines whereas some South Indians (only of pred. Australoid stock) have heavy Brow Ridges, heavily sloped forehead and a thick hairline that covers the forehead almost fully.

Not able to find a picture of a South Indian with hair like that, but hope you get the picture.
It's on an individual basis. I have pretty damn thick hair which I have to constantly get thinned when I get a haircut so my head can breath but one of my South Indian Keralan friends from university has ridiculously thin hair which one's hand can easily flow through.
I have seen Indians with male pattern baldness-can you tell me which part is it more common too?And my personal belief is that the more South you go-the thicker the hair gets.
Thick hair and and low hairlines don't seem to be restricted to South Indians, Southeast Asians, or other "Australoids". For example I've observed plenty of Iranians with hair that is generally thick, whether straight or curly.
So, it's SEA admixture?
It's not necesarrily SEA admixture, South Asians and SEA and all other asian descendents share a recent common ancestory and therefore share many of the same traits.
I think East Asians have it way more thick.
Native Americans also have thick hair. In many Mestizo countries in Latin America that trait is very common.
All asian populations and their descendents have this EDGAR varient, including Native Americans. That is why Mestizos have thick hair. If you have two copies of the gene, then your hair will be as thick as SEA. If you only have one copy of the varient, then your hair will be thicker than the average cacuasian but thinner than SEA. So that is why most Mestizos hair is thick bu not as thick as Asians. But there are mestizos with no copies of this varient and also Mestizos with with two copies. 23andme tests for this allele so once you get your results, you will know if you carry this varient. I carry one copy of this gene. Supposedly, this is also the gene allele that causes shovel teeth in Asians. I don't have shovel teeth so you might need two copies of this gene for it to show in your phenotype.
Native Americans also have thick hair. In many Mestizo countries in Latin America that trait is very common.
What I've noticed is that I've yet to see a pic of an Amerindian with male pattern baldness or bald. I've bald headed men of many backgrounds, but never one that looked pred. Amerindian.

Yes, some indians have thick hair others have it thinner, that trait can be variable as skin tone among native americans, some are very dark almost black, others are light brown and some are bronze color.
Thin hair.

Amerindians have the lowest Male Pattern Baldness of all populations in the world. Sadly, it seems that southern Euro's have the highest. I'm crossing my fingers

I have seen male pattern baldness among Mestizos/Eurasians so it can happen if you have Caucasoid admix.

I've actually asked a dermatologist client that same question and he too had personally observed the same thing, but did not know of any research which supported(or not) the observation.

Yes, with mestizos I've seen it too, but never with anyone who looks pred. Amerindian (via the eyeball method). I've seen lots of Asian baldies though.
The second pic Armin posted is the typical hair texture I see with those of pred. Amerindian phenotypes around here.

I'm about 62% Southern Euro, and most of my maternal uncles were bald before 30

Low brows can be observed in the Armenoid and Mtebid phenotypes, and also in certain Iranid cases too.
