Ok.

Let me put this thread out of its misery since its been a year and no one can guess him.

Some of you really need to travel.

He is native Australian.

But not native Australian as in Australian aboriginal because he comes from the Northern part of the Australian State of Queensland. A place called Torres Strait islands. The people there are technically Melanesian, and are also related to nearby Papua New Guinea although part of Australia.

He started off playing rugby in his youth like most kids in that part of the world but somebody told him to try out at basketball because of his height and athleticism ( he is 208 cm tall or 6 ft 10), and now he shoots hoops for a living.

Thats Nathan Jawai for you.

I checked the file name, and I knew he was Nathan Jawai. And one source that I checked, I think it was Wikipedia, said that he is an indigenous Australian. So I guessed Australoid. Anyhow, Australoid is a generic term imo that encompasses several different groups that are not really closely related to one another.

Base upon that picture in the OP, I would never guess Australian aborigine. But that's one picture, so what else did I have to go by. I was guessing Melanesian, but also SSA.

In that pic where he's wearing a blue uniform, he looks more Melanesian.

Amazing, he could pass as a regular afram maybe also sudanese. Doesn't remind me of either papuans or aboriginals , but i guess torres Islanders have their own look  ?

How common would his height and bodytype be for Torres straight islanders or melanesians and aboriginals in general ?

We can vary in height, just like we vary in looks, as far as the Melanesians are concerned. So just from what I have seen, we can range anywhere from short to tall.

But one thing almost for certain is that we tend to carry muscles naturally.

The Australian aboriginals tend to be a bit lighter in build than us but are nevertheless still very athletic. In Australia, in many sports, they are overrepresented like in Australian ruless football as well as in rugby.

The Melanesians of Papua New Guinea, Fiji and Northern Australia tend to opt to play rugby because it suits us. Those of Solomon Islands and Vanuatu go for soccer.

Even the taller ones would prefer to stay in rugby (as a line-out ball jumper), than go and play baskeetball. If you understand Melanesian or Pacific Islander mentality, the sport is better appreciated when it is physical.

So we vary in looks and height, but the common denominator would be our physicality.

Another one that would probably pass as Sudanese is 202 cm Nic Naitanui (Fijian extraction)

And also introducing 6 ft 10 inch Iliwa Baldwin (Of Papua New Guinean extraction and Grew up in Autralia). Goes to college and plays somewhere in the states.

And Semisi Naevo (197 cm and 115 Kg/253 pounds, rugby union beast of a man)

^ These ones look more Melanesian compared to the basketball player. I would not mistake these people for SSAs.

This guy is obviously mixedrace. I guess australoid/atlanto-nordid.

I always thought that one could clearly distinguish Melanesians from SSA's. But Nathan Jawai proves the opposite.

Very interesting posts by the way!
Melanesians seem to be true warrior types. Unfortunately there are too
little information about the Melanesian peoples on froumbiodiversity. It would be nice if you could post more about the Melanesian peoples. It is in fact very interesting!

^^

I will do that. (Post more on Melanesian peoples)

In the meantime, let me show more Melanesian sportsman who love to play rugby. Hailing originally from the either the Torres Strait (North Australia), Papua New Guinea or Fiji.
