In terms of physical appearance native Australians are most similar to people of Papua New Guinea. From wiki



A comparison[26] between Aboriginal Australian, European, and Asian genomes indicated that Aboriginals are more closely related to Asians than they are to Europeans. The comparison also showed that Europeans are significantly more similar genetically to Asians than they are to Aboriginal Australians, indicating an extended period of Aboriginal genetic isolation.

Blood samples collected from members of the Walbiri tribe of the Northern Territories were used to study the genetic makeup of the Walbiri in particular and Aboriginal Australians at large. The study[27] concluded that the Walbiri are descended from ancient Asians whose DNA is still somewhat present in Southeastern Asian groups, but has been diminished greatly. The Walbiri also lack certain information found in modern Asian genomes, and carry information not found in other genomes, reinforcing the idea of ancient Aboriginal isolation.

Aboriginal Australians are genetically most similar to the indigenous populations of Papua New Guinea, and more distantly related to groups from East India.[27] They are very distinct from the indigenous populations of Borneo and Malaysia, sharing relatively little genomic information with them as compared to the groups previously mentioned. This data indicates that Australia was isolated for a long time from the rest of Southeast Asia, and remained untouched by migrations and population expansions into that area.

Aboriginal population is heterogeneous. Aboriginals from east and west coast are as different as native Siberians and native north Americans.

Look at page 53 in the study supplement posted by Rugevit, they are far away from Yoruba Africans. I don't think that single Gedmatch sample in the first post gives a true picture of the admixture rate, due to a lack of samples and references. The study result correlates with the previous study by Rasmussen et al. Obviously it is an issue that so many people have recent European or East Asian admixture. Apart from that, I'd say the study shows that Australian peoples are unique. The study is also about the OOA model, not just about Indigenous Australians. Some interesting observations of the Denisovan and minimal Neanderthal admx, which may in fact not be from either of them (see page 76).

What I find interesting is that it shows how heterogeneous the population is and that they have varying Papuan influence, which makes sense. I've always thought that Australians were several very different peoples, who lived in different environments and who had different languages.

I've always thought that Australians were several very different peoples, who lived in different environments and who had different languages.

It does seem that there is a basal Aboriginal component that maximizes in Ngaanyatjarra speakers based on that study you posted. Papuans are definitely Aboriginals closest genetic relatives.

The sub-saharan is probably archaic humanoid ancestry (Neantherdal, Denisovan and other uknown). When you put Denisova on a calculator she scores mostly sub-saharan,

Wow, they have a LOT of East Asian and SSA. I'm guessing that it isn't real East Asian or SSA but those components are used as proxies for genomes that have yet to be discovered.
