The Support Our Law Enforcement and Safe Neighborhoods Act (known before its enactment as Arizona Senate Bill 1070 or simply Arizona SB 1070)[1] (https://www.forumbiodiversity.com/redirector.php?url=http%3A%2F%2Fen.wikipedia.org%2 Fwiki%2FSupport_Our_Law_Enforcement_and_Safe_Neigh borhoods_Act%23cite_note-sb1070-0) is legislation signed into law in the U.S. state (https://www.forumbiodiversity.com/redirector.php?url=http%3A%2F%2Fen.wikipedia.org%2 Fwiki%2FU.S._state) of Arizona (https://www.forumbiodiversity.com/redirector.php?url=http%3A%2F%2Fen.wikipedia.org%2 Fwiki%2FArizona) by governor Jan Brewer (https://www.forumbiodiversity.com/redirector.php?url=http%3A%2F%2Fen.wikipedia.org%2 Fwiki%2FJan_Brewer) on April 23, 2010.[2] (https://www.forumbiodiversity.com/redirector.php?url=http%3A%2F%2Fen.wikipedia.org%2 Fwiki%2FSupport_Our_Law_Enforcement_and_Safe_Neigh borhoods_Act%23cite_note-nyt-az-law-1) It is the broadest and strictest anti-illegal immigration (https://www.forumbiodiversity.com/redirector.php?url=http%3A%2F%2Fen.wikipedia.org%2 Fwiki%2FIllegal_immigration_to_the_United_States) measure in decades[2] (https://www.forumbiodiversity.com/redirector.php?url=http%3A%2F%2Fen.wikipedia.org%2 Fwiki%2FSupport_Our_Law_Enforcement_and_Safe_Neigh borhoods_Act%23cite_note-nyt-az-law-1) and has received national and international attention and spurred controversy including strong criticism and organized protests (https://www.forumbiodiversity.com/redirector.php?url=http%3A%2F%2Fen.wikipedia.org%2 Fwiki%2FProtest).[3] (https://www.forumbiodiversity.com/redirector.php?url=http%3A%2F%2Fen.wikipedia.org%2 Fwiki%2FSupport_Our_Law_Enforcement_and_Safe_Neigh borhoods_Act%23cite_note-cbs042610-2) Boycotts (https://www.forumbiodiversity.com/redirector.php?url=http%3A%2F%2Fen.wikipedia.org%2 Fwiki%2FBoycott) of Arizona were also quickly organized in response, including one by the City of Los Angeles (https://www.forumbiodiversity.com/redirector.php?url=http%3A%2F%2Fen.wikipedia.org%2 Fwiki%2FCity_of_Los_Angeles) announced on May 12 which prohibits city contracts with companies headquartered in Arizona, currently valued at $56 million, along with similar boycotts by other California (https://www.forumbiodiversity.com/redirector.php?url=http%3A%2F%2Fen.wikipedia.org%2 Fwiki%2FCalifornia) cities including San Francisco (https://www.forumbiodiversity.com/redirector.php?url=http%3A%2F%2Fen.wikipedia.org%2 Fwiki%2FSan_Francisco) and Oakland (https://www.forumbiodiversity.com/redirector.php?url=http%3A%2F%2Fen.wikipedia.org%2 Fwiki%2FOakland).[4] (https://www.forumbiodiversity.com/redirector.php?url=http%3A%2F%2Fen.wikipedia.org%2 Fwiki%2FSupport_Our_Law_Enforcement_and_Safe_Neigh borhoods_Act%23cite_note-CNN_LA_boycott-3)

The act is scheduled to go into effect on July 28, 2010, ninety days after the end of the legislative session (https://www.forumbiodiversity.com/redirector.php?url=http%3A%2F%2Fen.wikipedia.org%2 Fwiki%2FAdjournment_sine_die).[5] (https://www.forumbiodiversity.com/redirector.php?url=http%3A%2F%2Fen.wikipedia.org%2 Fwiki%2FSupport_Our_Law_Enforcement_and_Safe_Neigh borhoods_Act%23cite_note-geneffdate-4)[6] (https://www.forumbiodiversity.com/redirector.php?url=http%3A%2F%2Fen.wikipedia.org%2 Fwiki%2FSupport_Our_Law_Enforcement_and_Safe_Neigh borhoods_Act%23cite_note-ars1-103-5) Legal challenges over its constitutionality (https://www.forumbiodiversity.com/redirector.php?url=http%3A%2F%2Fen.wikipedia.org%2 Fwiki%2FConstitutionality) and compliance with civil rights (https://www.forumbiodiversity.com/redirector.php?url=http%3A%2F%2Fen.wikipedia.org%2 Fwiki%2FCivil_rights) law are expected.[7] (https://www.forumbiodiversity.com/redirector.php?url=http%3A%2F%2Fen.wikipedia.org%2 Fwiki%2FSupport_Our_Law_Enforcement_and_Safe_Neigh borhoods_Act%23cite_note-az-chal-6)[8] (https://www.forumbiodiversity.com/redirector.php?url=http%3A%2F%2Fen.wikipedia.org%2 Fwiki%2FSupport_Our_Law_Enforcement_and_Safe_Neigh borhoods_Act%23cite_note-hindu-7)[9] (https://www.forumbiodiversity.com/redirector.php?url=http%3A%2F%2Fen.wikipedia.org%2 Fwiki%2FSupport_Our_Law_Enforcement_and_Safe_Neigh borhoods_Act%23cite_note-wkpo-law-8)[10] (https://www.forumbiodiversity.com/redirector.php?url=http%3A%2F%2Fen.wikipedia.org%2 Fwiki%2FSupport_Our_Law_Enforcement_and_Safe_Neigh borhoods_Act%23cite_note-az-signing-9)[11] (https://www.forumbiodiversity.com/redirector.php?url=http%3A%2F%2Fen.wikipedia.org%2 Fwiki%2FSupport_Our_Law_Enforcement_and_Safe_Neigh borhoods_Act%23cite_note-aclu-sec-10)

The act makes it a state misdemeanor (https://www.forumbiodiversity.com/redirector.php?url=http%3A%2F%2Fen.wikipedia.org%2 Fwiki%2FMisdemeanor) crime for an alien to be in Arizona without carrying registration documents required by federal law, steps up state and local law enforcement of Federal (https://www.forumbiodiversity.com/redirector.php?url=http%3A%2F%2Fen.wikipedia.org%2 Fwiki%2FFederal_government_of_the_United_States) immigration laws (https://www.forumbiodiversity.com/redirector.php?url=http%3A%2F%2Fen.wikipedia.org%2 Fwiki%2FImmigration_law), and cracks down on those sheltering, hiring and transporting illegal aliens. The paragraph on intent in the legislation says it embodies an "attrition through enforcement" doctrine.[1] (https://www.forumbiodiversity.com/redirector.php?url=http%3A%2F%2Fen.wikipedia.org%2 Fwiki%2FSupport_Our_Law_Enforcement_and_Safe_Neigh borhoods_Act%23cite_note-sb1070-0):§ 1[12] (https://www.forumbiodiversity.com/redirector.php?url=http%3A%2F%2Fen.wikipedia.org%2 Fwiki%2FSupport_Our_Law_Enforcement_and_Safe_Neigh borhoods_Act%23cite_note-cis-attr-11)

Critics of the legislation say it encourages racial profiling (https://www.forumbiodiversity.com/redirector.php?url=http%3A%2F%2Fen.wikipedia.org%2 Fwiki%2FRacial_profiling), while supporters say the law simply enforces existing federal law[13] (https://www.forumbiodiversity.com/redirector.php?url=http%3A%2F%2Fen.wikipedia.org%2 Fwiki%2FSupport_Our_Law_Enforcement_and_Safe_Neigh borhoods_Act%23cite_note-ap-dissa-12), and that Mexico (https://www.forumbiodiversity.com/redirector.php?url=http%3A%2F%2Fen.wikipedia.org%2 Fwiki%2FMexico) itself has similar laws that are even stricter [14] (https://www.forumbiodiversity.com/redirector.php?url=http%3A%2F%2Fen.wikipedia.org%2 Fwiki%2FSupport_Our_Law_Enforcement_and_Safe_Neigh borhoods_Act%23cite_note-13). The law was modified by Arizona House Bill 2162 within a week of its signing with the goal of addressing some of these concerns. There have been protests in opposition to the law in over 70 U.S. cities,[15] (https://www.forumbiodiversity.com/redirector.php?url=http%3A%2F%2Fen.wikipedia.org%2 Fwiki%2FSupport_Our_Law_Enforcement_and_Safe_Neigh borhoods_Act%23cite_note-cbc-may1-14) including calls for a boycott of Arizona.[16] (https://www.forumbiodiversity.com/redirector.php?url=http%3A%2F%2Fen.wikipedia.org%2 Fwiki%2FSupport_Our_Law_Enforcement_and_Safe_Neigh borhoods_Act%23cite_note-wapo-boy-15) Polling found the law has majority support in Arizona and nationwide.[17] (https://www.forumbiodiversity.com/redirector.php?url=http%3A%2F%2Fen.wikipedia.org%2 Fwiki%2FSupport_Our_Law_Enforcement_and_Safe_Neigh borhoods_Act%23cite_note-rr-4-16)[18] (https://www.forumbiodiversity.com/redirector.php?url=http%3A%2F%2Fen.wikipedia.org%2 Fwiki%2FSupport_Our_Law_Enforcement_and_Safe_Neigh borhoods_Act%23cite_note-rr-3-17)[19] (https://www.forumbiodiversity.com/redirector.php?url=http%3A%2F%2Fen.wikipedia.org%2 Fwiki%2FSupport_Our_Law_Enforcement_and_Safe_Neigh borhoods_Act%23cite_note-csm-polls-18)[20] (https://www.forumbiodiversity.com/redirector.php?url=http%3A%2F%2Fen.wikipedia.org%2 Fwiki%2FSupport_Our_Law_Enforcement_and_Safe_Neigh borhoods_Act%23cite_note-angus-poll-19) Passage of the measure has prompted other states to consider adopting similar legislation.[21] (https://www.forumbiodiversity.com/redirector.php?url=http%3A%2F%2Fen.wikipedia.org%2 Fwiki%2FSupport_Our_Law_Enforcement_and_Safe_Neigh borhoods_Act%23cite_note-max-other-20)

So, what's your opinion? Is this racial profiling, and if so, are you for or against it?

Critics of the legislation say it encourages racial profiling, while supporters say the law simply enforces existing federal law[13], and that Mexico itself has similar laws that are even stricter

Nothing wrong with it imo.. Almost every country has such a law..

It has sparked a lot of controversy, and tensions are pretty high I would say!

Just one day after Cinco de Mayo, the Varela family of Phoenix, Arizona suffered a horrible shock when they watched a 50 year old White neighbor named Gary Thomas Kelley yell to 44 year old Juan Varela, "You wetback, go back to where you came" and then pulled out a 44 magnum revolver and killed him. According to witnesses in the 7th and Southern Avenues neighborhood, Gary Thomas Kelley was arguing with Juan Varela over the recently signed SB 1070 law which legalizes the racial profiling of Latinos in Arizona.

The incident has pretty much gone under the radar due to the nature of the biased Arizona channels of communication. The Arizona media plays down any racial crime committed against Mexican-Americans and other Latinos by Whites but overly exaggerates the opposite. One example is the vicious murder of 9 year old Brisenia Flores and her father Raul in Arivaca, Arizona last year by street prostitute Shawna Forde and serial killer Jason Bush of the Minutemen Civil Defense organization.

The home invasion and murder of the Flores family members by the Minutemen vigilantes has not been given the proper attention that it deserves in the media whereas the recent death near Douglas, Arizona of a rancher named Rob Krentz by an unknown assailant or assailants has been blown out of proportion. The Rob Krentz murder has been blamed on "illegal aliens" even though there is no evidence of this and in fact sheriff authorities now believe that Mr. Krentz was shot by an acquaintance. The Krentz murder was exploited by Arizona racists to justify passage of SB 1070.

Latino neighbors of Gary Thomas Kelley have lived in fear of him for years because of his anti-Mexican bigotry. Gary Thomas Kelley is a typical Arizona redneck that carry guns, hate and continually harass and threaten Latinos. Because of the state's violent culture, it has attracted many racists and White supremacists from throughout the USA. The child murderess Shawna Forde and serial killer Jason Bush came to Arizona from Washington state and the 'Tombstone Vigilante' Chris Simcox as well as Glenn Spencer came to Arizona from Los Angeles.

The Phoenix police have arrested Gary Thomas Kelley and he was booked at the Maricopa County jail. Shawna Forde and Jason Bush are in a Tucson jail awaiting trial.

This is Arizona picking up the slack for the federal government who is supposed to enforce the border. I think it's a fine measure.

It really isn't to get rid of anyone. Ever stop and think that the illegals are vital to Arizona's economy, so long as they stay a cheap labor source. This law forces them to keep their heads low and stay quiet about their situation, in the mean time employers can keep on utilizing the labor without fear of demands for increased wages, fair treatment, unionizing, etc. The rise in the illegal population in Arizona might slow from this (it needs to because of the economic slump), but the amount of illegals in the state is not going to decrease significantly.
