1) Get someone else to help pay for it :p

2) Wait for a discount (usually on big holidays or days like black friday (the day after thanks giving))

They once said something about underrepresented ethnic groups getting free tests but I never saw anything of it. There are people on 23andme with "free accounts' but I think most of them have Parkinsons or something, not quite sure.

^ I could be wrong, but I believe "free accounts" are simply demo accounts people can make to explore the 23andme website.

As for how to get a kit at a discounted price, unless you know someone who works for the company, it seems to be a matter of luck. You can try ebay (I see one kit up for bids at the moment), or you can wait until the next promotional or holiday discount if one ever happens again.

You can also consider trying your luck with emailing them and presenting a good reason for why your genes are valuable enough to be tested at a discounted or free rate and added to the samples. Like Froll mentioned, I've personally never seen anyone succeed. But hey, the worst they can tell you is no, so why not try anyway?
