Mandarin can be beautiful depending on who is speaking it, also I think a lot of people who think they are hearing Mandarin are really hearing some dialect.

I don't care for the Beijing accent, especially not Jinweir dialect, but I do like the Taipei accent.

I spent a week in Cambodia last year, between Khmer or Thai, one of them has to be the ugliest freaking langauge on earth. :-)

She speaks pretty good Mandarin, but her singing is beautiful

THe coolest sounding is Mongol, I think it sounds kind of sexy.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PlfqiM2K8o8

They have some weird sounds...like a "air" sound...and they obviously role their "r's, which is where I think Modern Beijing mandarin gets it "er" sound from, which is not used in Mandarin speakers to the south, and I doubt is native to Chinese as no other dialect has it.

It sounds close, but actually Vietnamese is in the same family as Khmer, it is just they have borrowed so many words from Chinese (likely from Cantonese and older dialects) due to a long contact with China...Vietnamese is also tonal, Khmer is not.

from that video i can clearly see big difference between Indian based and east Asian based languages.

Indian are sharp, and east Asian are melodic.

i would agree with you tho Khmer seems somewhat annoying, like there is too much eeeeeee(e like Ethnic) in it.But it could be just annoying voice of the speaker,so i cant be sure. Also Mandarin and Korean have somewhat annoying speaker, because when women with high pitched voice speaks fast,it sounds like alert to me.

I'm sorry but the Taiwanese dialect just doesn't do it for me. It sounds okay when a girls speaks because its feminine and but when guys speak that dialect it just sounds gay to me haha Mandarin is suppose to be a manly language!

Koreans, especially female-speakers, sound really whiny to my ears, they also tend to drag out the last syllable of every sentence when it ends in a vowel. The child-like "cute" tone used by some female Japanese-speakers on TV is also really obnoxious.

I hate the high pitch Beijing Mandarin... it reminds of the way Imperial Eunuch spoke..
And some Taiwanese girl who try to add the "kawaii" factor into their speech, it is very off-putting..

Other than that, Standard Mandarin can be spoken beautifully.

I agree, Khmer, in my opinion is an irredeemably unpleasant language; there's no way it can be spoken in that can make it sound "nice" or even bearable. That video clip is a perfect representation of that, I wasn't even able to make to the 20 second mark.

I think people judge base upon what sounds they are most familiar with. Those languages that are more popular, people are accustomed to them. But a language like Khmer (and its relatives) which is rarely heard by the vast majority of people in this world, will be unattractive to most people. It's like eating a truly exotic dish with exotic ingredients. Unless you are familiar with those ingredients and the way it is cooked, then you may not like it. I use to not like enchiladas for the longest time, but now I love them. But then again, there's probably some dishes that I can never like. :D

I haven´t heard all (East) Asian languages, but overall I don´t have a very positive image of them based on the ones I have heard though at least Japanese sounds pleasant (if I remember correctly so does Korean). Southeast Asian languages (like Vietnamese) are probably the worst. When I think of them I think of that Russian roulette scene from Deer Hunter where De Niro and Walken get "MAU!" screamed in their faces over and over again. *shivers* :|

I don't find anything more annoying than vietnamese people speaking their native tounge out in public loudly. Japanese and Korean are much more easier on the ears.

I don't know what's worse, Vietnamese speaking Vietnamese or Vietnamese speaking English. They both sound oh so awful. I think it is also one of the world's funniest languages. I was watching this Vietnamese movie on Netflix once and I couldn't stop laughing everytime an actor screamed something.

Tagalog Language is different from Filipino Language which is the National Language. Tagalog doesn't have loanwords, Filipino does have loanwords & derived from other Native Filipino Ethnic languages so don't get confused although Filipino Language is still or mostly based in Tagalog taken from the (7 different Tagalog Ethnic Group from Bulacan, Batangas, Nueva Ecija, Manila, Cavite, Laguna, Tarlac that represents the 7 provinces from the 7 rays of the sun from the Philippine flag that started the revolution for National Independence because we don't have a language that all of us will communicate because we have like over 170 different ethnic language in the Philippines)

--------------------------------------------------------------

Well from the above listing hmmm... choices. I'll select Vietnamese and Thai

I grew up in an area with a big Vietnamese population, so it kinda sounds normal to me. Maybe also add the fact that almost half the kids at my schools were Viet, thus their parents speaking the language probably helped "normalize" into my brain.
