Default Will America Do Whatever it Takes to Remain as the Sole Superpower?

Take the current crisis in the Korean peninsula for example. At least part of the reason that N. Korea bombarded Yeongyong Island was to protest the military exercise that American planned with S. Korea. After the exchange of artillery shells and dozens of deaths, America went ahead with the exercise anyways and made an extremely tense situation even more dangerous by deploying aircraft carriers in a show of force.

Now America is holding another exercise with Japan and reinforcing the military relationship with S. Korea and Japan. South Korea is holding its own military exercise at the same time and recent news have reported that live fire exercises are taking place right now in the North as well in response. Both Korea's have their militaries on the highest alert right now, NE. Asia is in a highly tense and volatile state where any stray bullets can spark a major war.

America's goals right now are crystal clear. America's policy towards N. Korea in recent times has been the same, which is intimidation. Time and time again this has proven to not work and it only serves to escalate the situation and push the N. Koreans to develop more advanced ballistic missile technology and build additional nuclear weapons. Even worse N. Korea will respond to whatever the US decides to do with nuclear/missile deals with Iran under the table. A nuclear N. Korea is not intimidated by anyone, not the US or China at this point because any war will end in mutually assured destroyed of N. Korea and S. Korea. The US can surround the Korean Peninsula with all its Carrier Battle groups and N. Korea will not be afraid.

However, the recent exercise with S. Korea is also part of America's containment policy on China. By deploying carriers into the Yellow Sea, the US navy is literally knocking at China's doors and showing China that US still dominates the Pacific and China cannot compete even in its front yard.

So will this aggressive foreign policy continue into the future when China overtakes the US as the leading economic power of the world? Will US policy play nice or will the Conservatives try everything in its power to undermine China and do everything in its power to sabotage China's development. Will we see an economical world war or a physical confrontation between China and the US in the near future?

Sure, strengthening Japan to cope with the perceived Chinese threat is also under way:

U.S. Encourages Japan To Enhance its Security Role

Following the annual U.S.-Japanese naval exercises and the recent South Korean, Japanese and U.S. foreign ministers meeting, the United States is nudging Japan to take on more responsibility for security in the region as a counterbalance to China.

US policy is directly impacted by psychopaths in Pyongyang. US-Chinese relations are good, and as far as I know the US has no interest in military conflict with China. Incidentally, many Americans admire Chinese educational success and development, and have warm friendships with Chinese here.

The leadership of North Korea belongs on tranquilizers and neuroleptics, and wikileaks shows the Chinese leadership agrees.

China is growing frustrated with North Korea and some Chinese officials would be open to the idea of a unified Korea run by the south, according to leaked U.S. diplomatic cables released by the WikiLeaks website.

Exactly, if US wants Japan to increase its own military strength so Japan can protects its interests in case of any island/gas field conflict between China and Japan in the pacific. China is building and modernizing its air force and navy rapidly and US will export to Japan the latest military hardware to counter China's military advancements.

    N. Korea will continue to amass nuclear weapons, heavy conventional and rocket artillery to counter the S. Korean/Japanese military. The testing of new ballistic missiles will continue.

Taiwan, which has traditionally been under America's protective wing remains the X-factor as Taiwan inches closer and closer economically with China. We will see in the next election if the Pan-blue coalition can remain in power and increase cross strait economic cooperation.

to sum everything up there is a 4 way arms race between China, Japan, S. Korea and N. Korea while America continues to move more F-22s to the pacific and reinforce its navy prowess by holding exercises.

Well the North Korean leadership are psychopaths with a loaded .45. The whole reason they developed nukes was for their own perceived safety so that the U.S./S. Korea cannot simply invade and carry out a regime change like it did with Iraq and Afghanistan. Nuclear weapons balances out the inequality of military hardware between the South and the North. If America invades they can say bye bye to S. Korea and the 50k American troops stationed there.

It takes a lot of balls to do what America and South Korea are doing here. They are not crazy so they must know something we don't.

There are conspiracy theories that say Kim's son has been profiting from short position after the shelling of Yeonpyong on the HK stock market to profit from the lost of confidence in investors in Asia. Whatever they S. Korean/American policy makers are hiding from us, it better be worth it because the Korean Peninsula is only getting more intense and an implosion of N. Korea from the inside or a direct war will not be good for any of the six parties involved.

USS George Washington was in China's EEZ without permission for its exercise with S. Korea. Thats a major provocation to China. Imagine how America would react if China held an exercise with Cuba directly south of Florida.

Somebody needs to police World Affairs.

If not Amerika, then who else?

China? Nazi Germany? Black Market Russia??

I think, despite Amerika's failures as a whole, people generally accept Amerika as an appropriate international, military authority. Who else will become 'Fair' in exercising foreign, international law? GRANTED I AM NOT SAYING AMERIKANS OR INTERNATIONAL LAWS ARE PERFECT BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT!!! I am saying that somebody needs to become responsible for worldwide, foreign affairs. Because if nobody steps-up, and takes responsibility, then North Koreans will continue to massacre South Koreans, since everybody knows that South Koreans are the (extremely, extremely) feminine ones.

The whole ordeal of this 'issue' is that China refuses to become an international player. And the truth is: they don't have to become one, as long as they give Amerika money, and support the "international police-state ideal", then China does not have to use its own military force unnecessarily.

This also SAVES CHINA MONEY. It saves many countries from having to pour their wealth and resources into the Military-Industrial-Complex as Amerika has… and continues to do.

And we feel this, as it breaks our economy, and turns everybody Poor.

Yet still, SOMEBODY has to become the 'police' of the world. Otherwise everybody will settle disputes the old (European) ways, with complete mutual annihilation, another World War…

Imagine if no police force existed in a community. What would happen?

Gangs, as-is the Russian mentality: lots & lots of gangs.

Is that safe, and for whom? Should we have a world full of gangs, and no police?

    You decide.

War in the 21st Century will become fought (and won/loss) between Chinese businessmen and Jewish Bankers.

Whoever is smarter, will win. It's in the numbers (ie. Economics).

north korea was just shooting off missiles to force poeple into giving them aid to make it through the winter...i dont think chinas gonna allow NK to do anything stupid because they want to look more legit in the rest of the worlds eyes and would probably hold supplies and shit over north koreas head to get them to act right if anything was to pop off.its not in the interest of ANYONE (china,nk,sk,usa) to be waging war right now.the economies are already in the crapper another war would just make it worse.from what i hear north korea does this alot around the winter time because they dont want the people to starve and have an uprising or something like that.

    just my thoughts...

*conspiracy theory* Maybe American is moving from Russia and choosing China as the new partner in foul deeds, already the 'recent' american bs campaigns with Tibet bs,the Nobel prize winner bs,Obama giving "sputnik moment" speech about China-US relations etc. , have been put in work to denote China as the new main partner. If I'm not mistaken both S.Korea and Japan wanted US forces out of their territory, and then, surprise, north koreans bomb(no doubt with the blessing of China). Putin on the other hand wants to show Russia 'still has it' and announced major modernization of the russian army http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2007...tories3.russia .
