Default 23andme / Institute for Afram Research - Free Kit.

    From 23andme

Do you have African ancestry or know someone who does?

If so, we need your help. 23andMe, in partnership with the W.E.B. Du Bois Institute for African American Research, is launching a research initiative called Roots into the Future. This project will help us better understand the links between DNA and disease in African Americans.

Here are two ways to help:

Reply "Join" (in the email body). As a Roots into the Future member you can participate in research online and receive updates on discoveries made from that research.

Recruit an eligible family member or friend for free by August 9, 2011. (Anyone over 18 who identifies as African American, Black, African or of African descent is eligible. Older participants are also more informative for research.)

Point them to 23andme.com/store and add one $99 + $9/month kit to their cart.
Click the "I have a discount code" link (above the "Checkout" button) and enter the following code: ______

    Click "Checkout."

Let's power African American research and strengthen those roots!
At this point I will not post the code because I dont know if it is specific to me............if its just ONE kit that is free (It does say "friend" not friends) or what. If it is just one kit I am passing it to a predesignated board member. Anyone else get an email?

I did as well, so they'll get a free kit? What about the subscription fee and the shipping fee?

I have no idea. Good question though. My thought is they would only pay shipping.

Will they use the results from the resach for statistics? What is the process exactly?

Is this for all New World Blacks, or specific to Aframs?

It says here https://www.23andme.com/roots/ that they want 10,000 participants. With some codes in the past for discounts they worked for multiple kits, but I am not sure about free kits (I got one for Relative Finder, but I didn't try to get more than one).

I urge those of you who got the email to get the kits, and then try to pass on the code, since it sounds like this research is for a good cause.

p.s. I didn't get an email. I guess my Afram friends are S.O.L.

So does a kit include an ancestry painting?

I think you get a free kit, don't know if you get multiple ones though. I entered the code and it said: -99 thus 0 dollars.

It would be a full kit, ancestry painting, health results, same thing as paying customers get.
