In terms of sects/groups/churches, Assyrians in Iraq are more diverse. Most Assyrians in Iran trace their background to Urmia. While in Iraq there are Assyrians who trace their home villages to Nineveh, Duhok, Hakkari, Urmia, etc.

I'm kind of skeptical on some of these results to be honest. In any case, if it is the case, it's probably some undiscovered lineage that is a sister clade to I and J, but that's assuming the study is accurate.

Not knowing really anything about the population histories or the people of the Area this study had a very good introduction in giving that background info.

sharing a close and ancestral haplogroup doesn't mean they're my ancestors ,we just bot share a common ancestor and Assyrian empire didn't exist when the first R1bs were in europe .

They did not type all the J defining markers such 12f2 or M304, only P209. Downstream I is missing in both populations with M429*, but both have a variety of downstream J.

The R-M207 in the paper is also likely R2 as they did not type M479.

I tried to calculate correlation coefficients between haplogroups listed in the paper for 44 populations and IE language speaking. This is what I got:

    Code:
    I	M170	0,28
    R1a	M17	0,24
    R M207	0,21
    L	M357	0,14

    J2	M12	0,13
    R1b	M269	0,05
    L	M76	0,03
    C	M216	0,03
    R2	M124	0,02
    E	M78	0,01
    O	M175	0,00

    R1b	M343	-0,09
    L	M317	-0,14

Regarding R1a and R1b. There is something of possible significance that has not been mentioned.

Refer to the results of Yepiskoposian et al. (2006), for the different Armenian regions:

    Code:
hgx	ARA	IRA	KBA	NOR	SYU	WES
    hg1	22.70%	32.10%	42.80%	22.20%	40.00%	22.20%
    hg3	0.00%	1.80%	5.60%	4.20%	9.30%	3.30%
    hg29	0.00%	0.00%	0.00%	0.50%	0.00%	1.10%

    Tyler-Smith and Jobling YCC
    hg1 P*(xR1b8,R1a,Q3) Q1a/b,R1b,R2
    hg3 R1a1
    hg29 R1a*

    Code:
    POP	R1b	R1a
    SYU	40.00%	9.30%
    KBA	42.80%	5.60%
    NOR	22.20%	4.70%
    WES	22.20%	4.40%
    IRA	32.10%	1.80%
    ARA	22.70%	0.00%

    Code:
    POP	R1b	R1a
    KBA	1	2
    SYU	2	1
    IRA	3	5
    ARA	4	6
    NOR	5	3
    WES	6	4

    From Grugni et al.

Also. Note the position of T-M70. I have noted several times that Y-DNA T is underestimated as a possible signal of Semitic language speaking people movements in certain parts of the world.
