It depends how well the role is played. We had Ben Kingsley play, Gandhi, directed by Richard Attenborough. If someone can get into the skin of the character, it usually works.

It's really Aframs fault
they strictly adhere to the one drop rule
so what's the problem?
all of a sudden Zoe Saldana is not "Black" enough

The major problem is Nina Simone become successfull at a time when black girls like her , has no possibilities to become an idol . Majority of black famous female singer of her time were light skin or dark skin with caucasian features, the ones who were dark skin with non caucasian features were successfull only among Black peoples . Nina Simone was like a surprise in the business of her time, because she became popular among also blacks and whites , and suffer of a lot of insults of the business because of her appearance . Zoe Zaldana would not had suffer of the same critics . So she can't play Nina .

Ya I understand that.
I'm familiar with Nina Simone.
I agree, Zoe Saldana SHOULD NOT play the role
My reasoning for it is simply because Zoe doesn't resemble Nina at all. (A lot of that has to do with her skin being lighter.)
But my point i saying that it's Afram peoples fault is because many Aframs are selective with when they choose to use the ODR and don't differentiate between the degrees of "Blackness" until something like this occurs......but it makes them seem hypocritical when they say "black is black" and "one drop of black blood is all you need...." and then get upset over this.

She looks black enough to play that role. I don't see why so much fuzz about it.
"Si vis pacem, para bellum"

If people still follow the One Drop Rule and believe "black is black" whether you look like Whoopi Goldberg or Mariah Carey, then casting decisions like this will continue to occur.

It's just Hollyweird. Don't like it, don't watch it.

Oh - and the darkness grew intolerable,
And as I looked down the long, low corridor
I felt another horror, unfelt before.
