Default My 23andme/Dr. Doug results (East Herzegovinian)

Hello everyone, I'm new to this forum.

Here are my test results from April this year.
I have shared them before but not here.
Please feel free to comment and discuss if you like.

As far as I know, my recent ancestors are all from present day Montenegro.
The last 10 generations are from Old Herzegovina (paternal side), before this the family moved in according to oral tradition from present day East Herzegovina. My maternal grandfather was from one of the Montenegrin ”Brda”- tribes, maternal grandmother was from Sandžak region (east Montenegro). All Serb names/surnames.

Paternal haplogroup: I1* (subgroup I1d1/I-P109 determined by FTDNA)
Maternal haplogroup: HV* (subgroup possible, but not determined yet)

    Ancestry Painting: 100% Europe

    Global similarity:

    67,83 Northern Europeans
    67,82 Southern Europeans
    67,32 Near Easterners
    66,94 Central Asians
    66,53 Northern Africans
    66,05 Siberians
    66,04 North Americans
    65,92 South Americans
    65,78 Eastern Asians
    65,69 Oceanians
    63,55 Eastern Africans
    63,42 Southern Africans
    63,40 Central Africans
    63,34 Western Africans

I'm covered in the German, French and Austrian boxes above (which is weird).

I will post GEDmatch scores and Doug McDonald results later.
    Ta ta.

    Some scores from GEDmatch.

Basically the components usually found in most modern day Europeans. But of course with the higher than average WA/SWA admixture, which falls commonly in the Balkan cluster. My SWA seems a little too high though, perhaps even for Balkans.

    Välkommen till forumet!

Your results look like they should. You have about equal north and south European component in global similarity, which goes well in hamd with your Yugoslavian ancestry, seeing as how Yugoslavs are basically south Europeans with Slavic infusion (the proto-Slavs were a population with strong Indo-European roots, which is why modern north Slavs still have a high frequency of the north European component).

    Default Doug McDonald results

Some comments about Doug’s chromosome painting:

Doug could not say much about the South Asian segment on the second chromosome; it’s small and hard to interpret.
He suggested that I ignore it.
But I’m actually able to find it in various chromosome paintings (Eurogenes, Dodecad, MDLP) so it has to be there, even if South Asian component is absent genomewide in my Admixture Proportions.

As to the X, he said its algorithm is not very accurate ... nowhere near a good as the autosomes. The Euro-Mideast-S.Asia distinction is quite unreliable. I guess I will have to wait for the new 23andme X-chromosome painting (I read someplace that they are working on it).

    From the BGA Analysis document:
“Southern Europeans will show some Mideastern spots without having recent ancestry from the Mideast”.

    BGA Analysis, Quantitative Results:

Most likely fit is 57.9% (+- 11.5%) Europe (all Southern Europe)
    and 42.1% (+- 11.5%) Europe (various subcontinents)
    which is 100% total Europe

The following are possible population sets and their fractions,
    most likely at the top
    Tuscan= 0.687 Lithuani= 0.313 or
    Tuscan= 0.630 Belorus= 0.370 or
    Tuscan= 0.419 Hungary= 0.581

which is averaging to a spot on the map in the former Yugoslavia,
    which is probably fairly accurate.

    Doug McDonald
    Spot on the Map Plot:

    Bull's-eye.

    From what I have understood..

GEDmatch scores show “backcalculated” ANCIENT admixture.
Dr. Doug McDonald tests score show RECENT admixture.

Since I score 100% total Europe, there should not be non-euro traces from recent times (such as the Ottoman period).
Or at least, it seems much more difficult to prove?
So, it looks like my WA/SWA components, as well as the small bits of non-euro stuff in ancestry paintings, should be interpreted as from Iron Age, Bronze Age or maybe even Neolithic?

    Default Eurogenes Jew test

Serbian population average from Eurogenes: 4.07 Ashkenazi
Mine is 4.84 (not "clearly elevated").
20 single and/or mixed mode Oracle results do not show AJ.

So, I don’t seem to have Ashkenazi Jew ancestors - good to know.

Default The new Ancestry Composition from 23andme

Still a work in progress but here are the speculative results for today (officially out of beta).
This will be interesting to follow up, since the results may change automatically when components are improved and when reference databases are upgraded.

Northern Europeans (67,83) still highest in Global similarity after Southern Europeans (67,82), which doesn't match the Ancestry Composition results.

This one has improved I noticed.

Yep, Bosnia and Herzegovina fits much better than Romania in that list.
It seems 23andme got more tests from western Balkans.

According to 23andme I carry East European (aka "slavic") heritage on the whole X chromosome.
This should be more realistic than the X from Dr Doug.

I will post my new ancestry painting later.
Also my mtDNA Full sequence results from FTDNA will be ready soon.
