    Default My 23andme results!

So, I just received my 23andme results, and as expected, I am predominantly British & Irish. I was slightly disappointed that I didn't have a higher % of French & German and Scandinavian or other European ethnicities. I'm very, very English and Irish. The South Asian % is pretty interesting. Given the history of British colonisation of India, I suppose quite a few people in Britain and its former colonies have some distant Indian ancestry. 23andme says that I likely have a South Asian ancestor who was born between 1730 and 1850. As far as I know and can trace back, all of my ancestors came to Australia before the 1900s and were primarily from the British Isles, with a 3rd great grandparent coming from Germany. So yeah, here are my results. Also, for anyone interested, I made another thread about my Ancestry and GEDmatch results: http://www.forumbiodiversity.com/sho...dmatch-results

The non-European percentages might simply be noise, i.e. you don't actually have any supposed South Asian ancestor. It happens.

Of course, I'm aware that it could be noise. Still, it's interesting to think about. I thought there might be something more to it because I have a "1st cousin" (a great uncle through my paternal grandfather's side) on Ancestry who has Asia South and Melanesia trace regions. And I share a DNA match with him who has Asia South as one of his main regions. Meh. Out of all my family lines, it's my paternal grandfather's I know the least about.

correction: an ancestor between 1790 and 1880, not 1730 and 1850
