The French government almost erased the Occitan language.![]()
I am just a little bit French...I have some huguenot french ancestry. I'll admit it I am proud of it. My great grandmother always talked about our French heritage.
I don't know how nationalist they are in France, though I always thought they were more civic nationalist which I don't like.
I don't know for the other country but today France isn't a nationalist country.
We had a period since the 70 where French nationalist die for the multiculturalism and immigration. Since some year we see a rebirth of the national ideas. But mostly, it's because the multiculturalism totally fail. I'am not sure a lot of persons have a construct patriotic ideologie. It's more a reject of a current problem.
And like other said. What is the french patriotism. If it's to the french republic, we can consider that a woman in burka totally reprensent french people. So no need to explain how great this kind of patriot they are.
Nope. Statistics indicate that, non-ethnic french population of France is exploding and they're importing spouses rapidly, effectively doubling their birth rate-driven population growth, through marriage. I'd be interested to see statistics involving abuse, divorce and children with single parents. Adieu à la France, c’était sympa, sachant que vous!
PS: Frogs get salty though, when their former colonial subjects reverse the invasion. Chickens come home to roost. Imagine if they had left Algeria, Vietnam, Haiti, French Congo, and basically all of western sub-Saharan Africa alone. Maybe those people wouldn't know what France was.![]()
French nationalism is cultural that is their specialty. For instance, the French have the policy of Laïcité and the consequential affair de Foulard. American, British, and other anglosphere nationalism is civic or civic conscientness or civic pride. Certain Arab countries and Isreali nationalism is religious.
We Americans when we think of having at true European experience will visit France as tourists though it is unfortunate many Americans dress like slobs there and don't attempt to speak the language. If I visit France I will do the opposite.
France, of course, helped Americans against the British e.g. general Lafayette and gave America the statue of Liberty.
Anyway, I am glad we Americans saved France during WWII. I like French culture, food, wine and the sexy women.
Viva la France !

“And, furthermore, that some people have a sex life and others don’t just because some are more attractive than others. I wanted to acknowledge that if people don’t have a sex life, it’s not for some moral reason, it’s just because they’re ugly. Once you’ve said it, it sounds obvious, but I wanted to say it.” — Michel Houellebecq
It is not like I who looks at europe from a back country know it but I have got for some reason the same gut feeling. As for the other ´bigs´- Germany´s possibilities to act nationalistically have been heavily restrained by historical reasons, Britain acts differently than continental europe but I am not sure can it interpreted as ´nationalism´, perhaps it is just a British quirkiness.
