There is a significant overlap with Northern populations. Blondism ratios are high. Sorry Snowelf. I didn't read that this was Kazan Tatars only. I just was talking about Tatars in general. Tatars of the far east, Siberians, have a mongoloid contribution much more frequently.

What you perceive as Russian in their faces (light eyes, facial zygomatics) is in fact that of ancient Iranians (Scythians, Sarmatians) which Russians, Ukrainians and other slavs have too. Then add some Uralic and Turkic components and you have the Tatars.

Tatars have very complicated origin. In reality "Tatar" meant more like citizenship than any strict ethnic roots in ancient ages. All people who lived in the territory of the Golden Hord were called as Tatars. But they were of different origin as Decimator said - Bulgarian, Slavic, Scithian, Sarmathian, Fenno-Ugric, Uralic, Hunnu - great mix! And those people you call mongoloids have Uralic admixture or origin.

My favorite are the types who are either mesocephalic or closer to dolichocephalic, yet still retaining some residual Asiatic features.

They aren't full Turkic that's for sure. But of course they're more turkic (in genetics) than Anatolians or Azeris, for example

I hope you don't confuse 'Turkic' (as linguistic community) and "Turkish' (as ethnicity of nation of Turkey)? Besides there's a big difference between ancient Turkic tribes and modern Turks who live in Turkey.
