    The other thread about classical Italian vs. German composers made me think of this, one of the best performances of one of, if not the most difficult male opera ara, from one of the first operas, L'Orfeo.
    It is thought that singing techniques in the Baroque was a bit different than now and relied a lot on improvised ornamentation. In this particular aria, the ornamentation is written in the notation, probably as it was performed by the specific singer, Francesco Rasi, chosen for the Orfeo role.
