Yes, and I signed in the book of visitors. We drove from Estonia (near Jogeva) to Riga, stopping in Cese and a national park whose name I can't remember. There was a cable car wich passed over a canyon crossed by a river...nice landscape.

I guess that was Gaujas National Park. Cēsis is one of my favorite towns, I would like to live there someday. Anyways I am really glad that you liked there, and indeed the places that you visited are situated in a really beautiful place.

Why did people need castles? To defense. If someone needs to defense, it means he cannot peacefuly coexist with neighbours. Its a bad sign.

Is this a crusader castle? I know there are several left standing in Turkey, Syria, Lebanon and maybe other places. Very cool looking either way.

That's right below my mum's town, it's in North Lebanon, what's interesting about it is that there's no confirmed info about who exactly built it..some say a Lebanese prince in the 17th century, some say the Ottomans. It's quite pretty but not visited much due to its location..

I've been to the castle below - it's called Beaufort Castle, in South Lebanon, it was built by Crusaders and occupied by Israeli army until 12 years ago, now it's a tourist site and what's nice about it is you get to see both Lebanon and part of Israel/Palestine from it, so you can see 2 countries from the same spot.
