    Comite des Citoyens
Civil right organization founded by New Orleans Creoles of color in response to the increase of segregation following the end of Reconstruction (termed ‘Redemption’ by the Democrats). They brought together AA leaders and white Progressives to protest and litigate on behalf of people of color.
The committee tested the Separate Cars segregation by having a young member, Homiere Patrice Plessy bka Homer Adolphe Plessy, sit in the ‘white’ railway car and get arrested. They used that action to legally challenge segregation and their civil rights suit was eventually taken all the way to the Supreme Court where the decision in ‘Plessy vs. Ferguson’ upheld states rights to legal segregation, formally issuing in ‘separate but equal’.

If I'm not mistaken, in Spain, the term Creole (Criollo) refers to whites of Spanish descent born in the colonies.

Don't know if the French have a similar concept.

I guess they're "creoles" in the sense that they descend from the founder population. \

Nowadays in alot of latin america, Criollo just means "local" or "of the country". If a Dominican says "una fiesta de la criolla" that means a typical dominican party
