Should be announced shortly that it has been observed.

As a little bit of background, the Higgs boson was first hypothesized in the 1960's, as the particle that gives mass to other particles. Developed in the 1970's, the Standard Model of particle physics is a set of theories that supposedly predicts all the known subatomic particles in the universe, and how they interact. With the 2012 confirmation of the existence of the Higgs boson (also known as the "God particle"), the Standard Model was complete. Unfortunately, that model doesn’t explain everything, especially dark matter, the gravitational force that holds galaxies together. The mass of the Higgs particle also seems much too low to some scientists. Researchers at CERN who helped discover the Higgs boson, have spoke about how embarrassing and misleading the term 'God particle' is, for example.
