For an Anglo-Saxon nation. I was expecting them to have a larger number of blondes, but that's not the case since the black haired traits seem to be dominate just like in Ireland.

From the map, it seems like the Jutes and Saxons (South East England) were more blonde than the Angles and Norse (North England).

Hasn't this been discussed countless times...

I was actually observing hair colour while walking around today and the majority were medium-dark brown, blondes weren't that common and I assume most were dyed because I hardly ever see blonde males.

What is your impression of what an Anglo-Saxon nation should look like? Do you even think half or more people in Sweden are blond? The majority of people in the Netherlands and Germany also have dark hair. That's the reality, not some comic book Hollywood expectation. Norfolk and East Sussex are, according this, well within Scandinavian levels, and the rest represent a Germanic/Celtic nation very well. But overall I think most blond stats are exaggerated or incorrect. The book Face of Britain said Norway is 30% blond which is probably more realistic. Maybe taking away the bottle blonds, England is more like 20% which is probably similar to Germany with the Netherlands being slightly more. If you walk down the street and pass ten people and two are blond, that's pretty high.

I'm surprised Leicestershire scored lower than many others. When I was growing up there were lots of blondes around (all the more remarkable given how big the South Asian population is). Also, by 'brown' do you mean light brown or dark brown?

I know it's off topic but I think it would be interesting to map the skin tone of England, I think we have the palest in the world.

Is it possible to filter by sex too? The vast majority of women dye their hair in UK and not all shades are equally popular. Stats based on guys only would be more interesting.

You need to look at hair colour plus phenotype.

According to Beddoe the Anglo-Saxon types ranged in hair colour from golden blond to a light to medium brown, often dull (his word) but rarely very dark.
