From what I've gathered, the differences between US and British culture largely depend on what part of the US you come from. For instance, in Texas and parts of the Western US, there's a lot of Hispanic cultural influence. You have Tex-Mex, cowboy hats, rodeos... all influenced by Spanish and Latin American culture. Conversely, some parts of the Northern US seem more Canadian/British than anything else. The Southern US seems to have a certain rustic quality that might be Native American influenced, or perhaps those immigrants came from poorer regions of Britain to begin with. I've heard that the Midwest has this sort of pragmatic German influence because a lot of German immigrants built farms out there.

But in any case, I would say that the US is mostly unified by British culture and the English language. We're such a large country that there's a lot of regional distinctiveness.

I've heard people say that the average American likes to take risks and tends to be rude... but I find that it's mostly our leaders who act that way. The corporate/political culture tends to favor sociopathic behavior at the higher levels, and unfortunately they're some of the most visible Americans.

If I were trying to find something that unifies all Americans in a way that distinguishes us from British culture, I'd have to say it's the lack of a monarchy, a tendency towards egalitarianism, and a strong sense of "rootlessness." I would say the Constitution unifies us, but if you look at how strongly it draws from Enlightenment ideals, Greco-Roman ideals of Republic, and the Magna Carta, it's kind of hard to say those ideals are uniquely American.

I don't really see us as the nation that fought the Revolutionary War anymore... that was an isolationist country, very puritanical and small. The states barely even saw themselves as part of one body. The modern US didn't really exist, in my opinion, until around World War I or II. The way everyone came together for the war effort, industrialized, the government got bigger, people got more patriotic, etc... that's when our current identity came into play.

But what are some of the cultural differences between these countries you've noticed?
I noticed that America and Australia have the most in common culturally and Canada is the most liberal with French having more influence in the culture (Canada has pet French people unlike the rest of the Anglo-Sphere).
