    Default Spaniards 🇪🇸

The Spanish people, or Spaniards (Spanish: españoles [espaˈɲoles]) are a nation and ethnic group native to Spain that share a common Spanish culture and speak the Spanish language as a mother tongue.

Within Spain there are a number of nationalisms and regionalisms, reflecting the country's complex history. The official language of Spain is Spanish (also known as Castilian), a standard language based on the mediaeval dialect of the Castilians of north-central Spain. There are several commonly spoken regional languages (mainly Basque, Catalan and Galician). With the exception of Basque, the languages native to Spain are Romance languages.

There are substantial populations outside Spain with ancestors who emigrated from Spain; most notably in Hispanic America.
Well, figured this would be a good chance for all of us to see what Spaniards generally look like (I myself am not too particularly familiar with them). There was another thread on them but it seems rather weak, bad and got all derailed after only lasting for six pages (where barely any pics were shared) so here we are:

Despite their pigmentation, Spaniards have generally more of a Western European look, and can be differentiated from Italians and Greeks. Some of them above look like darker British and Irish, though a few have minor North African influence. The vast majority look closest to southern French.

my thread is quite ok, since it shows random university students, (not the stereotypical Banderas and Cruz) : see my signature below.

^ I meant no offense, I just meant that it generally got derailed a bit and seemed real old so instead of dredging it up I thought I'd start a new thread. I am most certainly going to share random pedestrians and Spaniards as this thread goes on. But tbh, if the admins personally feel the threads should be merged... Go ahead.

Neat. Anyone have any estimate or idea about how the celtic, visgothic, moorish, jewish and other influxes may have affected the overall spanish populace?

I wonder how some people can be so butthurt and/or stupid to not consider Spaniards, in general, as "White-European".

Cause a lot of Spaniards are somewhat more dark eyed and darker haired compared to what most consider as ''white'' blue eyes and blonde hair, light brown hair, red etc.

^ Xochi, I was a bit busy yesterday all of a sudden and might be today too. Could you try and post some Spaniard pics, I really don't want this thread to end up useless though I will flood it with images tomorrow or tonight.

But light hair isn't the rule even in many Western European countries. A lot of French, Irish and German, for example, have dark hair, and they still being very French, Irish or German looking. Hitler and Goebbels were black-haired, still they are "aryans" to nazis, anyway.

The "feud" with Spaniards (and Portuguese) is because of Mestizos from Latin America, in the case of the Americans, and of the Moorish Period in Iberian Peninsula, in the case of Europeans or self-hating South Americans.

Most people tend to think that there was a massive Moorish invasion, with hundreds of thousands people from the Maghreb crossing the Pillars of Hercules and overcoming the ancient Iberian population, what is not true. Most invasions in that region came from a small force (whatever they were Romans, Goths, Suebian, Moors etc.) that became the ruling class, with the ordinary people assimilating by force many of their habits (Latin language and Romanization in Roman Era, conversion to Islam and Arabization in Muslim period etc.). People tend always to think that the pre-invasion population was small and soon overran by foreigners, but in fact the invaders, very small in numbers, were merged into the population, not the opposite.
