    Leon Russell (1942-2016).

Leon Russell died in Nashville at the age of 74, according to his Facebook page. His wife said he died in his sleep.

Fans quickly posted tributes to the Oklahoma musician, a Grammy award winner and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer.

Russell had a heart attack earlier this year and had bypass surgery.

Born Russell Bridges, he changed his name to Leon Russell after relocating to Los Angeles from his home in Tulsa. He got his start playing in Tulsa nightclubs when he was just 14.

Russell’s nearly 60-year career has spanned recording some of the great 1960s music as a Hollywood session musician to his own “superstar” status beginning in the 1970s, to recording and touring with Elton John in this decade.

Some of his most well-know hits include "Tight Rope," "A Song for You," and "Delta Lady." He performed with many stars over the years including John Lennon, Elton John, Bob Dylan, Ringo Starr, Joe Cocker, and George Harrison.

Carrie Fisher just died in a heart attack:

    https://www.theguardian.com/culture/...-princess-leia
Carrie Fisher, the actor best known for her portrayal of Princess Leia in the Star Wars films and for her unflinching self-honesty that contrasted with the artifice of Hollywood celebrity, has died in Los Angeles. She was 60 years old.

Her death came days after she was reported to have suffered a heart attack on a flight from London to Los Angeles last Friday. The news was confirmed in a statement released on behalf of her daughter, Billie Lourd, who said Fisher was “loved by the world” and “will be profoundly missed”.

    [...]

Her Star Wars co-star Harrison Ford, 74, said in a statement: “Carrie was one-of-a-kind ... brilliant, original. Funny and emotionally fearless. She lived her life, bravely.”

Among the first to react to her death was Mark Hamill, who starred as Luke Skywalker alongside Fisher in the Star Wars films. He tweeted “no words #Devastated” and a photograph of them together in character.

Earlier, announcing Fisher’s death in Los Angeles, Billie Lourd’s publicist said: “It is with a very deep sadness that Billie Lourd confirms that her beloved mother Carrie Fisher passed away at 8.55 this morning. She was loved by the world and she will be missed profoundly. Our entire family thanks you for your thoughts and prayers.”
She had experienced medical trouble during a flight from London on Friday and was treated by paramedics immediately after the plane landed in Los Angeles, according to reports. The celebrity website TMZ, which first reported Fisher was unwell, had cited anonymous sources claiming the actor suffered a heart attack.

Todd Fisher, her brother, said over the weekend that many details about her condition or what caused the medical emergency were unknown.

“We have to wait and be patient,” he said. “We have so little information ourselves.”
“And, furthermore, that some people have a sex life and others don’t just because some are more attractive than others. I wanted to acknowledge that if people don’t have a sex life, it’s not for some moral reason, it’s just because they’re ugly. Once you’ve said it, it sounds obvious, but I wanted to say it.” — Michel Houellebecq

    George Michael - Freedom! '90

    George Michael - Father Figure

Wham! - Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go:

What an irony, that he died on Christmas. Indeed, this was the Last Christmas.

    Three simple facts about Finns:
    1. Baltic Finnic languages (including Finnish) never came from the Volga basin along with ancestors of present-day Finns.
    2. Finnish I1 (around 30% of all Finns) has Germanic roots from the late Bronze Age or the early Iron Age.
    3. As to the Finnish prehistory we have no evidences about any Iron Age (or later) east-to-west migration, but many unquestionable evidences about west-to-east migrations.

Default 'The Exorcist' author, Dead at 89.

    William Peter Blatty (1928-2017).

William Peter Blatty, the author and Oscar-winning screenwriter of the horror classic The Exorcist, has died at the age of 89.

The Exorcist director William Friedkin revealed news of Blatty's death, tweeting Friday morning, "William Peter Blatty, dear friend and brother who created The Exorcist passed away yesterday."

Stephen King tweeted, "RIP William Peter Blatty, who wrote the great horror novel of our time. So long, Old Bill."

Before authoring what's considered one of the greatest horror novels of all time and adapting the work into an Oscar-nominated blockbuster, Blatty specialized in comedy, penning numerous humorous feature films – notably The Great Bank Robbery, The Pink Panther sequel A Shot in the Dark, Promise Her Anything and What Did You Do in the War, Daddy? – throughout the Sixties.

In 1971, Blatty published The Exorcist, his "based on true events" story of two priests attempting to vanquish the demons possessing a 12-year-old girl in Washington, D.C. Both the novel and its acclaimed 1973 film adaptation – written by Blatty and directed by Friedkin – permanently impacted the horror genre.

Blatty won the 1973 Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay for The Exorcist, which was also nominated for Best Picture, a rare honor for a movie in that genre.

Following the success of The Exorcist, Blatty wrote 1978's The Ninth Configuration; two years later, he would act as director, producer and screenwriter of the 1980 film based on that novel.

Blatty would return to the world he created in The Exorcist with his 1983 novel Legion, which served as the basis for The Exorcist III, which Blatty wrote and directed.

A Fox television series inspired by Blatty's The Exorcist – with the victim of the titular exorcism of Blatty's novel now the mother of a possessed child – debuted in 2016.

^^I didn't really like The Exorcist. I thought it was silly and boring. (The part where the little girl turns her head completely around, wasn't in the novel. Director William Friedkin suggested it, but Blatty correctly said, "a human head can't turn completely around because it would just pop off." Friedkin included it anyway and people loved it) The Exorcist III was okay though.
