Default Isles of the North Atlantic

I'd been doing a little bit of idle web surfing yesterday and I fund some fascinating links to the islands of the North Atlantic. I'm not talking about the mainland United Kingdom or Ireland, but the more Norse oriented islands of the North Atlantic which include the Orkney Islands, the Shetland Islands, the Fair Isle ( all belonging politically to the United Kingdom) and the Faeroe islands, which are governed by Denmark.

The landscape is absolutely breath taking and their geographical and historical connections to Scandinavia are quite obvious. They definitely look like they're worth a visit ( once finances are amenable to such a week or two long visit. A day or two would hardly do justice to these magnificent islands) and the hiking trails look very nice.

Here are some links to the websites that promote tourism to these areas: http://www.orkney.com/about/history, http://www.shetland.org/about/history, http://www.fairisle.org.uk/History/index.htm, http://www.visitfaroeislands.com/en/...lands/history/
