I was bored this Saturday afternoon, so I fiddled with a map of the Earth in Photoshop. This one is to show what I consider to be the different "subcontinents" of the planet's major continents (Africa, Eurasia, Australasia, and the Americas), defined along both geographic and cultural lines.

Knowledge is consciousness of reality. Reality is the sum of the laws that govern nature and of the causes from which they flow.

I would include a sahel region for Africa and break down eastern and southern Africa better. "Amazonia" starts on the Caribbean side of Honduras and Nicaragua really.

Agreed. If you have ever been to the swamps surrounding Lake Managua, you can't help but feel the eerie resemblance to the jungles around the Orinoco and Amazon river basins.

Not sure if somebody else already posted it, but this map purports to show homicide rates around the world as of 2017.

Apparently, Russia, Ukraine, and the Philippines score even worse than some of the SSA nations. Another map from the same site, which shows homicide rates in 2016, shows the same trend.

That said, Latin American nations such as Mexico, Venezuela, and Brazil score worst of all on both maps.

You didn't include Turkey into "Turan", now every Anatolian Turk will hate you.

Brazil, in general terms, is a very violent place. There is no denial in that. But the violence is not homogeneously distributed. Some places are Mad Max level violence stuff lol, but some are quite peaceful, at least for Latin American terms.

Most crimes in Brazil are drug related, I mean, drug dealers dealing with each other. In some areas of the country, that is truly hardcore, but in some other areas crimes are usually petty crimes and stuff like that.

I live in a medium size town, in the most dense and inhabited state, and the level of violence here is very low compared to other places. I walk on the streets here, even at night, without the fear of being robbed, differently from when I lived in São Paulo city, when even during daylight I had such fear. My town is among the 50 safest places to live in Brazil according to the last Atlas da Violência ("Violence Atlas"), the government statistcs study about homicides.

The top 10 safest cities are the following (the number is for their homicide rate):

    Jaú (SP) – 2,7
    Indaiatuba (SP) – 3,5
    Valinhos (SP) – 4,7
Jaraguá do Sul (SC) – 5,5
    Brusque (SC) – 5,8
    Jundiaí (SP) – 6,1
    Limeira (SP) – 7,7
    Americana (SP) – 7,7
    Bragança Paulista (SP) – 7,7
    Santos (SP) – 7,8

Eight are in São Paulo state and two are in Santa Catarina. It is not a coincidence that both are the most developed states in Brazil acording to several Human Development studies.

The following map is for the homicide rate in Brazil as a whole. The shades of red are the violence levels.

Has anyone seen this? The map (made by Masaman; he has a channel on Youtube) hits the nail on the head. Very impressive stuff.

His efforts are 10/10. Regarding Brazil, it is awesome how he included the Afro-Brazilians in areas of Bahia and Maranhão, Slavs in Paraná and Spaniards in São Paulo.

He did so with the DR too, despite the weirdos and braindead moronic race warriors on his Caribbean Hispanic vid.
