    Default Ancient Egyptian Mummy Genomes

Looks like Ancient Egyptian Genomes will finally be being released, really exciting stuff coming up.

Krause, Johannes (Max Planck Institute—SHH), Verena Schuenemann (Institute for Archaeological Sciences, University of Tübingen), Alexander Peltzer (Department for Archaeogenetics, Max Planck Inst), Wolfgang Haak (Department for Archaeogenetics, Max Planck Inst) and Stephan Schiffels (Department for Archaeogenetics, Max Planck Inst)

Egypt, located on the isthmus of Africa, is an ideal region to study historical population dynamics due to its geographic location and documented interactions with ancient civilizations in Africa, Asia, and Europe. Particularly, in the first millennium BCE Egypt endured foreign domination leading to growing numbers of foreigners living within its borders possibly contributing genetically to the local population. Here we mtDNA and nuclear DNA from mummified humans recovered from Middle Egypt that span around 1,300 years of ancient Egyptian history from the Third Intermediate to the Roman Period. Our analyses reveal that ancient Egyptians shared more Near Eastern ancestry than present-day Egyptians, who received additional Sub-Saharan admixture in more recent times. This analysis establishes ancient Egyptian mummies as a genetic source to study ancient human history and offers the perspective of deciphering Egypt’s past at a genome-wide level.
Based on that summary, I would be inclined to think that modern copts will cluster very closely to these AE samples, but we will see when this study is released. Either way, incredibly exciting stuff.

Yeah, this one is gonna cause alot of tears and raging I think. If it turns out those "Greek-arab" mongrels that always claimed to be the descendants of the Ancient Egyptians and spoke the latest stage of the Egyptian language are in fact actually the descendants of the Ancient Egyptians surprisingly enough, well I can already see how this news is going to be taken by certain circles.

Ultimately a human being (Most likely white) who will decide if THIS set of mDNA is different enough from THAT set to warrant classification as a new lineage.

I have my doubts as to whether or not the results of this study doesn’t have some very euro-centered presumptions built into its data.

While its fair to be skeptical, I think you should also look at your own implicit biases that cause you to doubt in the first place. Would you have doubted those same white researchers if the pre-print said that Ancient Egyptians shared more SSA genes than Modern ones?

What do they exactly mean by "near Eastern"? Are they referring to a closer cluster to Horners or Eurasians?

Near eastern almost always refers to the middle east, horners are a mix of this near eastern dna + their east african component.

Naw man. It dont work like that. The data is the data... you can question their interpretation of the data but it is what it is. If you really believe what you just wrote then you shouldn't pay attention to any DNA studies whatsoever.

Being Afrocentric I will tell you now right now there are difference ways Afrocentrics will attack this:
    -They are late mummies.
-They are not royal mummies so they dont matter.
-They are only measuring Sub Saharan ancestry based on "West Africans"....Egyptians SSA is not West African.

In all 3 instances Its going to be a fail if and when ancient royal mummies show practically the same thing.

Seems like Copts are going to be not only the best proxy for Egypt at the start of the muslim invasion ~1400 years ago, but also all the way back 3000 years ago.

They will handle it with some new convoluted explanations as they always do. Just like creationists for instance.

Typical egyptsearch answer, racist and hypocritical. Your wording doesn't even make sense. The albino men's science is everybody's science and the results will be replicated by other albinos niggas from East Asia as well as straight-haired Africans from India.

I wonder how this could be reconciled with the DNA Tribes results of the pharaohs?
