That's repulsive! Might as well resort to a witch doctor since it might do as much to cure your stomach and bowel ailments!

These types of people do go to witch doctors, or, they call them “naturopaths”.

Or actually, on second thought, comparing naturopaths to witchdoctors is an insult to witchdoctors, who actually do have medical knowledge.

I get it, like the cunning men/women of the Middle Ages in Europe that would get mistake for being witches and warlocks bc they knew about roots, herbs and such.

Yeah, also, I was sick once and a traditional indigenous healer gave me this drink which, while was the most disgusting thing I ever tasted, had me feeling better the next day.

Not surprised you felt better. Some of those folk remedies actually do work, either as a placebo or because they're the real deal. There's much to be said about holistic medicine that modern medicine can't begin to equate.

A lot of modern medicine descends from holistic medicine, actually. And a lot of folks remedies have been proven by science. I remember when I was a kid, if I was sick to the stomach, my grandmother gave me ginger ale. She believed it would make me feel better. That has been proven by science and they even have ginger pills at the pharmacy now. I can tell you, ginger was a Godsend when I used to live on an island, because I get seasick as hell, and other anti-nausea medication would make me so drowsy I wouldn’t have been able to drive my car off once we got on land.

The Zulu used to consume marijuana after battle because they believed it prevented a form of battle madness and now Veterans Affairs gives medical marijuana to soldiers with PTSD. People always figured out what works.

I've read so much of them as a kid, the French version (Bob et bobette), I never pictured him with a mustache lol
