Default What is religion to you?

Is religion important to you? The older I get, the more I want to find about Christianity. Just in case, I am not old.

My father didn't want me and my older sister to be baptised. My mother was listening to my father, although she could not accept her children were not baptised. She baptised us secretly, when were older hiding our crosses telling us not tell our father anything about us being in church. Later, she could not accept that father of her children doesn't know his children are Christian, so she told him preparing for a scandal. He took it well – Mum said.

I think religion is a culture and traditions of our societies. God is the same for all people. No?

Nice observation on the connection between religion, culture & tradition. That definitely should be emphasized more. I honestly would reach and just say that religion and culture are one in the same.

Jews, Christians, Muslims believe in same God. How much we disliked each other over the years. Jews were persecuted for so long in Europe. Muslims dislike both Christians and Jews. Christians disliked each other, Jews and Muslims at some stage.

Yet, we believe in the same God. Perhaps Abrahamic religions are nasty? Chinese, Indians believing in Budah have been 'relatively' peaceful in comparison to us. Maybe for this reason Huns and Hindu account for nearly 2/3 population of the world?

Religion is something that was put in place to give us morals and to keep order in society. Without religion we'd all be living like a bunch of savages right now.

Thats what were doing right now? Living like savages. I was athiest back in day and I still had morals and did what was right. I guess everyone isnt like me. Its also laws, rules, social norms,media,brainwashing.... If you make murder the norm or rewrite the bible, everyone will start murdering people. Like off the movie the purge.

Christianity impacted my life greatly, thought I didn't realise it growing up, but being Catholic, going to Cahtolic school and being surrounded by Christians my entire life ultimately shaped who I am and my morals. I do not believe in a God though, the spirituality aspect of religion does nothing for me, I would describe myself as an Atheist but very culturally Christian I suppose. I completely acknowledge the role Christianity played in the past, present and how it will hopefully shape the future, though I'd like to think it is possible to still maintain order in society and good morals without religion. I think religion can also divide people and, without their followers being aware, serve an agenda. If Christianity dies out then perhaps other religions will then replace it, which I hope doesn't happen unless it's something completely new.
