Default Do you believe aliens have visited earth?

A popular conspiracy theory in recent years, in no small part thanks to science fiction films like Prometheus, is that highly intelligent extra-terrestrial aliens, have visited earth, and variations on this conspiracy theory is that they're involved in some secret cooperation with our governments.

Here's a good clip, explaining why aliens haven't and most likely never will, visit earth, at least not in the foreseeable future anyway:

10 Reasons Aliens Won't Invade Earth:

Do you believe aliens have visited earth, and if so, why? I'll add a poll later!

Oh boy I see some alien astronaut theorist posts coming.

Anyway the most likely scenario is any advanced civilization able to travel to our planet would see us like we see ants. They would likely just observe us for a short time and move on out of boredom.

Statistically alien life exists somewhere as the universe is so vast, but the likelihood of visitation to our planet is very very unlikely, but is likely somewhere in the universe.

A one in trillion event is not so rare when the sample set is googleplex or even infinite.

What's the story behind this ancient aliens meme? Why exactly that guy, whoever he is? Did he say something about aliens or is it because he looks batshit crazy? I've seen this meme posted many times here on ABF and elsewhere.

Yeah, the ant analogy was also brought up in the clip I posted, also in the first Avengers film

It's a good comparison which is also why I find it funny that some people seriously believe aliens have visited us and are somehow involved in shady back deals with our governments and whatnot. I've even heard crazy shit like aliens planted us here, or that aliens GMO modified apes into becoming humans and similar crackpot explanations.

I'm not sure the ant analogy is all that valid though. I mean, that's assuming that extra-terrestrial aliens are so advanced that other intelligent life is beyond them; surely some of them must be curious if they're alone in the universe, too, and would like to have contact with other intelligent life. Much the same as we're wondering about these questions.

Yeah, but just like the clip pointed out (or I should perhaps say, John Michael Godier), that we haven't really seen any evidence so far, of any advanced civilization anywhere in the universe. Doesn't mean they don't exist, it could simply be that the light from an advanced civilization, hasn't reached us yet, and what we're seeing now from other stars and planets, is simply light of ancient stars and planets before their solar systems evolved life and intelligent life, and as of right now their solar systems might very well, inhabit highly technological civilizations. However, statistically, if such highly advanced extra-terrestrial civilizations do exist, we should at least find one through our telescopes, and so far, none has been observed. So it's reasonable to conclude that highly advanced technological civilizations probably don't exist anywhere else outside of this planet, because we really haven't seen any examples radio telescope signals, or Dyson spheres and similar scenarios.

Odds are that we could be alone in the universe, or almost alone anyway, because for sure, most of the universe is sterile, the question is how much of the universe is sterile? Life in general is extremely rare, and intelligent life is even more rare. The conditions for life to arise naturally, are extremely strict, and it's only around type I stars (type II stars are unlikely and type III stars pretty much impossible) that life can exist anyway.

Even if intelligent life was common, for aliens to find us, would be like them looking for a needle in a haystack.

On the History Channel show Ancient Aliens the crazy haired guy is the "expert" on ancient astronaut theories.
He's a bit of joke and very unscientific but he gets high TV ratings in US. He just ASSUMES anything found is ancient aliens.
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ancient_Aliens

Notice what real scientist say about the show:
Smithsonian.com science writer Brian Switek was extremely critical of the series, particularly an episode that suggested "aliens exterminated dinosaurs to make way for our species." He characterized the show as "some of the most noxious sludge in television’s bottomless chum bucket."

Kenneth Feder, Professor of Archaeology at Central Connecticut State University and author of Frauds, Myths, and Mysteries: Science and Pseudoscience in Archaeology, has said that he was approached by Ancient Aliens producers regarding his potential participation. "My response was, I’d be happy to be on your show, but you should know that I think that the ancient astronaut hypothesis is execrable bullshit," he said, in an interview. "I haven’t heard back from them, rather remarkably. So, I guess maybe they’re not interested in the other point of view."

If they have visited Earth, I think they may just observe us in much the same way humans observe animals at a zoo, albeit from a greater distance.

Pretty sure they'd be horrified if they did.

    Super cool topic !

One interesting subject that I've observed in Ancient Astronaut Thesis is the idea that ETs came (or are still coming) to Earth to mine precious alloys for use of their technology or realign previously inhabited planets.

Here's an excerpt from the book Atlantis by Shirley Andrews pages 120-121

"The mountains of Atlantis were an excellent source of mineral deposits, including silver, gold, copper, tin, iron and sulfur. Everyone loved the readily available precious metals for ornamenting themselves and their buildings. To meet their own desires and the demands of their extraterrestrial visitors, Atlanteans also mined gold and silver in Africa and South America and tin and copper in Peru and Great Britain."
    Thoughts?

I admit, Giorgio Tsoukalos does come across as a sloppy researcher. Robert Bauval & David Childress have more `likable` information in my opinion. They seem more well versed.

Yea ok in the same way Guy Smiley is more likeable than Oscar the grouch ? Regardless all the ancient astronaut theorists are idiots.

Remember before the show Ancient Aliens, there was In Search Of, hosted by Leonard Nimoy.

That show posited that the Nazca Lines in Peru were created for humans to communicate with aliens.

Also that the Dogon people communicated with aliens from the Sirius, and that they will return someday.

And that the Hopi were visited by aliens
