Its dead as a musical genre already. With all of these guys mumbling who can know what they are saying? Rap is dead, hip hop will live forever though.

I don't know about that (I don't really listen to trash metal anyway). Hip-hop's problem is that it's going through the same phase everything else in the music industry is going through, as is true also, of the film industry and video games. Music especially has taken the biggest hit of course, but that doesn't mean movies and video games aren't suffering. The problem? Superficial looks before talent. In the music industry, that translates to beautiful singers instead of talented singers, and in rap/hip-hop, it's cool niggaz instead of brothaz with a brain, so to say. And with movies and video games it's all 100% CGI/graphics and little else. That's why Eminem has been sucking really hard throughout the 2010s (his last good song was Not Afraid; he literally has not done one good song after it), and that's why we no longer get any 2Pac and so on. Look at Snoop, he's become a clown in recent years, with all that fo shizzle stuff instead of putting out something worth listening to.

One of the problems with modern music is that they're making all the music on computers these days, as opposed to using real instruments and old school shit like they used to (you know, back when music was actually music, like back in the 80s). No one is actually composing music these days, it's all just computer generated crap. That's also why rock, pop, soul, and every other genre are pure shit these days. The computerization of music killed the music.

There is some good rap out there. You just rarely hear it in mainstream channels.

It’s that mumble rap trash that is popular now.

And when I made the heavy metal comparison, I was referring to metal in the 80s when it was all glam stuff, singing about girls and money (sound familiar), while the good bands were underground. Then in the late 90s métal went through this other cringeworthy emo phase while there was good stuff in the underground. I see similarities with rap.

Well I think these morons lost any imagination they might have had and just want to keep a steady stream of money flowing in. The problem isn't really mumble rap or trash metal or whatever, but the fact that people keep buying this stupid bullshit.

Anyway, the music video version is heavily censored, but this is how rap sounded in the 90s:

Da Brat - Sittin' On Top Of The World:

^^ Great electric guitars, all hardcore gangstashit. Now we have that moron Jay-Z sitting at the top and he sounds like a fucking zombie.

Speaking of glam metal, you really should check out The Darkness. Great stuff.

I just wanna throw out there that apparently that "cash me outside, how bout dat" girl is selling out concert venues as a rapper. I'm guessing her dj is not some dude from the hood with two turn tables and a mixer, but a 19 year old Asian kid with a $4,000 computer

Hip Hop reached it's zenith during the 1990s. The NY 'Boom Bap' with it's dark xylophone percussions can't be topped.

    Lol I challenge that.
West Coast rap is also nothing to be played with. G-Funk in particular. If one doesn't have the rhythm, that style can't duplicated.

Quantized beats/loops were used way back in the 80's and there's not much difference in how they are used now. Just more accessible through computers, but there's more "refinement" now in the way big producers compile digital instruments or samples. It's very easy for the average person to create a track on their own, that's for sure.

It can diversify music but also set very low standards for what is considered "creative"... take this shit here for instance
