My conflict with NY Ricans stem with their altitude of some of them DEMANDING to be accepted but doesn't care about learning the culture or languages, also I have meeting the other issue of them engaging our issues with what I call "US googles" and the perspectives throught US news instead of reading local island news(we have island local newspapers in English)

It is easier for some fools to misinterpret the Islander/Nuyorican divide on a supposed racialism or classicist behavior on our part. We are mainly insulted at the fact that they reclaim our identity but do not resemble us in most ways. My paternal cousins would not be treated as Puerto Rican in Puerto Rico, period. They simply do not speak spanish and if they do, they struggle a lot, in which case we make it easier for them and speak to them in english. It is a two way street and so far only we islanders are the only ones walking it both ways. Why should we embrace people with customs and habits which are of a different nation? Under what notion? The juridical fiction of the american citizenship? Yeahh .... culture trumps that fiction.

    Puertorriqueños en Barcelona

We got together to talk about how we could organize aid from Barcelona. There isn't a Puerto Rican restaurant, so we got together in a place that offered the next best food (Dominican )

Though you don't hold Nuyoricans to the same standards as Islanders right?

Over here in California, many Mexican nationals expect Chicanos to speak Spanish and practice the culture on the same level as someone born/raised in Mexico. If you don't, then they get mad and call you "wannabe gringo", but if you try to act paisano, then they get mad and say you're "not really Mexican" lol.

Example: Is it like this with Nuyoricans?

"Living or dying, it's not a big deal. What we should be concerned about is whether or not we're allowed to crawl to our graves."
