if alexander didn't die so young rome would not exist and right now we would probably already be at 50% in terraforming mars and robots are already colonizing nearby stars.

    Exactly right.

At the time of Alexander's expansion in 336-323 BCE Rome was only just strong enough to conquer its neighbours in Latium, and Veii in southern Etruria.
If Alexander had turned west he would have overrun southern Italy.
Rome and Latium would have fallen and come under direct Macedonian rule or would have been placed under the control of some leading Greek city state in Italy such as Neapolis (Naples).
Greek/Macedonian rule would have meant more peace, high cullture and technological progress and less slavery and war for Italy and the West.

Alexander the Gay is so overrated. He won seven battles. He destroyed a weakened Persia and a weakened Egypt. Where is the pomp and circumstance for Odoacer for destroying a weakened Rome?

Genghis Khan, Attila, Timur, Napoleon I, there were plenty of conquerors who were more impressive than he who actually had to create their own empires, rather than being born into the purple, so to speak.

Julius Caesar and Sulla had gay affairs and a host of Roman emperors were bum jockeys too.

Overrated or not, Alexander would have conquered Rome if he had not died at age 33 and turned west.
Mediterranean civilisation would have spread peacefully and selectively into western Europe through Greek-speaking city-states like Massilia (Marseilles), Syracuse and Neapolis without Roman chancers like Julius Caesar who killed one million Gauls and enslaved a million others.

I'm torn between Spanish and American Empire. It's just choosing between the lesser between 2 evils. The Japanese Occupation was the WORST however.

I'd say...American. The Spaniards never gave the natives citizen status and abuse in all aspects for over 300 years the wounds are still fresh. Americans were interested in the Philippines just so they can sell surplus goods but eventually gave up the country anyway.

Every Roman leader had gay allegations thrown at them by their enemies. Roman writers from his era say that they were likely just political slander (such as Mark Antony's attack on Augustus), and no proof has arisen that he was legitimately interested in men sexually.

A lot of people called America an empire after 1898. In retrospect, I might've chosen Carthage, having inadvertently left them off the list.

Who cares if they were bum jockeys or not.

The fact remains that the Romans were dunces who relied on the Greeks and Greek-speaking Sicilians, South Italians and Levantines for most of their culture and most of their architects, technological experts, teachers, scientists and sailors.
